Johnny Depp in contention for lead in Martin Scorsese's Sinatra biopic?
Universal, the studio behind Martin Scorsese’s recently announced Frank Sinatra biopic, has put Johnny Depp at the top of its wish list of actors to play Ol’ Blue Eyes, according to Deadline Hollywood Daily. Scorsese had reportedly been eyeing longtime collaborator Leonardo DiCaprio (Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed) for the lead role. But now that the Universal-produced period-heist picture Public Enemies, starring Depp and Christian Bale, looks like a potential winner, the studio is eager to line up Depp’s next high-profile project. Universal would neither confirm or deny the report; and Depp’s rep says it’s untrue.

Top-five finisher Brooke White may not have won the big prize, but the 25-year-old Arizona native will begin her professional singing career this summer with a debut, High Hopes & Heartbreak, executive-produced by Idol judge Randy Jackson, and released on June Baby Records, a label he also co-founded.
Says Jackson in a press release, "I wanted to work with Brooke from the moment I met her. When she sang, I instantly heard the legendary greats that inspired her: Carole King, Carly Simon, Joni Mitchell… I’m so happy to be working with an amazingly talented artist at the beginning of her career."
White, who hit No. 2 on the iTunes Pop Singles Chart with “Hold Up My Heart" earlier this year, was best known on the show for her renditions of songs like Dolly Parton’s "Jolene," Simon’s "You’re So Vain," and the Beatles’ "Let It Be"; Heartbreak will hit stores July 21.
