The N picks up Hollywood 'it' kid dramedy 'Gigantic'

The N, which will be renamed TeenNick in the fall, has ordered 13 episodes of Gigantic from producers Marti Noxon (Buffy, Private Practice) and Dawn Parouse (Prison Break), according to the Hollywood Reporter. The half-hour dramedy will take a skewering look at the life of Hollywood "it" kids whose parents are A-list celebrities, and will feature testimonials by real-life Hollywood teens as well as celebrity cameos.

Monica Bellucci joins 'The Sorcerer's Apprentice'

Monica Bellucci, star of Shoot ‘Em Up and the French film Ne te retourne pas (Don’t Look Back, premiering this weekend at Cannes), will play opposite Nicholas Cage in Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer’s The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, according to Variety. Belluci’s sorceress Veronica is the long-lost love of Cage’s character, Balthazar Blake. Directed by Jon Turteltaub, the film about a sorcerer who recruits and trains a young protege to fight forces of darkness in modern-day Manhattan is scheduled for a July 2010 release.

Liam Hemsworth joins Miley Cyrus in 'The Last Song'

Australian actor Liam Hemsworth will play Miley Cyrus’ love interest in Disney’s adaptation of the upcoming Nicholas Sparks novel, according to the Hollywood Reporter. In The Last Song, Cyrus’ rebellious teenager must spend the summer with her estranged father, while Hemsworth is a local beach volleyball-playing cool kid with Ivy League dreams. Julie Anne Robinson will direct. The studio has set a start date of June 15.

Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament mugged in Atlanta

Jeff Ament, bass player for Pearl Jam, was the victim of a violent mugging outside a recording studio in Atlanta, several sources are reporting. Three people wearing blackmasks, gloves, and pants attacked Ament late last month, according to police records, smashing the windows of a rentedJeep and taking a BlackBerry. They also robbed him of $3,000 in cash and $4,320 worth of goods and his passport. Ament tried to run and was knocked down, sustaining head injuries.The assailants escaped in a black Nissan Maxima. A surveillance camera captured the robbery, but no one has been arrested. Pearl Jam is not commenting.

Jason Statham to star in 'The Killer Elite'

Action star Jason Statham will headline The Killer Elite, a new film based on the Ranulph Fiennes bestseller The Feathermen, according to Variety. Statham will portray a former Navy Seal who comes out of retirement to save his friend. The movie is based on a true story about a group of former British Special Forces soldiers who were hunted by assassins. Filming is set to begin overseas this fall.

Roadside buys rights to Chris Rock's 'Good Hair'

Worldwide rights to Chris Rock’s Good Hair, an HBO Films documentary about the way hairstyles affect the African-American community, have been sold to Roadside Attractions and Liddell Entertainment, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Roadside plans to release the film, which premiered at Sundance in January, this fall. HBO will retain the pay cable rights.

Rock produced and co-wrote the documentary, which features appearances from Ice-T, Raven Symone, and Maya Angelou.

Mia Farrow and Soon-Yi Previn will not be called to testify against Woody Allen in American Apparel trial

A lawyer for American Apparel, the clothing company Woody Allen is suing for using his image in its ads without his consent, confirmed to Reuters that neither Farrow (the filmmaker’s former girlfriend) nor Previn (his wife) will be summoned to the witness stand during the trial. Earlier this month, Allen made a plea to the New York judge assigned to the case to help prevent Farrow and Previn from being subpoenaed to testify. Allen is seeking more than $10 million in damages at the trial, which begins in New York City on Monday, May 17.

'300' star Gerard Butler charged with misdemeanor battery

The AP is reporting that the Los Angeles City Attorney’s office charged British-born actor, Gerard Butler, best known for his leading roles in 300 and P.S. I Love You, with misdemeanor battery in relation to a run-in with a photographer last October outside the premiere of his movie, RocnRolla. Butler’s lawyer, Blair Berk, says the charge does not require Butler to appear in court and, therefore, he’s not expected to show up. If convicted, Butler faces up to six months in jail.

'Last Call With Carson Daly' gets renewed

Last Call With Carson Daly has been renewed by NBC for another season, Broadcasting & Cable reports. With the announcement, NBC has firmed up its late-night lineup for the 2009-10 season, with Conan O’Brien on the Tonight Show at 11:35 p.m., Jimmy Fallon on Late Night at 12:35 a.m., and Daly resuming his wee-hours chat-fest at 1:35 a.m.

Lou Diamond Phillips joins 'I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!'

NBC has confirmed that La Bamba actor Lou Diamond Phillips has been added to the cast of the upcoming I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! Phillips will join fellow cast members Stephen Baldwin, Janice Dickison, and Heidi and Spencer Pratt, among others. The show debuts on NBC on June 1.
