Daniel Craig and Hugh Jackman off to Broadway

Categories: Stage

James Bond will pair with Wolverine on Broadway. The New York Post is reporting that Daniel Craig and Hugh Jackman will star in A Steady Rain, a play about two Chicago cops whose friendship is tested by a domestic dispute they encounter in a poor neighborhood.

Jackman won a Tony in 2004 for The Boy From Oz, but this would be Craig’s Broadway debut. His next Bond film can wait, apparently: Barbara Broccoli, who oversees the James Bond movie franchise, is producing A Steady Rain in New York.

I thought Hugh was supposed to be doing a Houdini musical or something like that. What happened there?

  • Chele Belle

Wow….all that manliness on one stage…(((YUMM))).

  • Rob

Why is a Broadway play about two Chicago cops being cast with two foreign actors? I can see the importance of keeping key actors when a play comes over from the West End but mounting a show in New York about Chicagoans with no American leads? Unnecessary and unfair to the theater actors being robbed of jobs.

I agree about the point that American actors need the work. Hadn’t thought of that, but really, it’s weird (this casting).

I never really understand that argument as it pertains to entertainment. So what if they’re foreign–perhaps their star power will ensure that the performances sell out, thereby allowing American stagehands, theater workers, and supporting actors to remain employed throughout the show’s run. I mean, if the producers were going to hire Americans for their roles, they still probably would hire big names. In other words, the little guys aren’t suffering here.

The show will sell out in a jiffy. I’m not sure the stage can take so much manliness – and muscles. They’re going to have to turn up the air conditioning!

  • Baco Noir

Oh, Rob, you mean like all those American actors in the West End of London and Kevin Spacey as artistic director of the Old Vic? This is a non issue.

  • Alex G

I’ve been hugely impressed by both actors on stage before (Jackman in the Broadway production of ‘The Boy From Oz’, Craig in the London production of ‘A Number’) so I can’t WAIT to see this show. Jaw-dropping performances are guaranteed!

Rob- you are kidding, right? They’re actors- who on earth are they “foreign” to? They can play Chicago cops because they’re actors- the same way they’d play James Bond (who’s a fictional character) or Wolverine (also fictional- and Canadian, by the way. Oh no- the guy playing him is Australian! Somebody warn the Foreign Actor police!).
This is what actors do- they act out characters! If you don’t enjoy their work or don’t think they’re talented, that’s one issue worthy of discussion- but to say they don’t deserve to work on Broadway because they’re not American and it’s “unfair to the theater actors being robbed of jobs”, that’s just sad.

    Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig.
    On stage together.
    Dressed as cops.
This just might be the single greatest theatrical event in history.

  • mae

Please, write some scene where it is necessary for both of them to take off their shirts! Yummy.

  • Liz

… and I just died. Better start saving my money, ’cause there’s no way I’m missing THAT!

  • Why ‘foreign’ actors? Well…

Hugh Jackman did a whooping $63 million at the box office with The Boy from Oz, which ran for 12 months. And that was back to 2003! Imagine what numbers he’ll do now that he is such a huge superstar. And with Daniel Craig joining Jackman, this is sure to break records at the box office…

  • Vance

    mae? I like your thinking!!!

  • Kayde_Lyn

Daniel Craig can SING!?!?! He is now the perfect man. I love Hugh, but damn Craig is sexy! I SO wish I could see this…

  • Bill

A Steady Rain is a play not a musical… your hopes that Daniel Craig can or will sing are not yet realized

  • Robin

Back in 2003, I ordered tickets to see “The Boy from Oz” (months before it opened). No problem getting tickets on the fifth row–didn’t have to go to a scalper! Something tells me it won’t be as easy this time!!

  • nathan

    So when exactly?

  • Kayde_Lyn

My mistake! I guess Broadway=musical to me, but I read closer and see that this is indeed a play. Still wish I could see it, I think Craig and Jackman would be a really interesting combo.

  • hmj

Hottest casting on Broadway! Hollywood – eat your heart out!
Ticket-buying and stagedoors will be extreme nightmares!
According to the NY1 channel, Craig has signed on but Jackman still to do that officially. The play is supposed to open after Labor Day.
It is a hard and gritty 2-character play ( 95 minutes long) that was well-received in its debut in Chicago.

  • Elizabeth

Did somebody mention Hugh Jackman?! He’s way past awesome, but am not surprised with his experience in the theater. As for Daniel Craig joining him, what a hoot!

  • Roland

Craig and Jackman on the same stage? The theater that will host this play better coat the audience area floor with plastic sheets for the drool…and audiences better come prepared with earplugs for the screams and ovations this play’s definitely going to get!

  • huddy lover

do Broadway shows usually end up on DVDs someday?

  • lisa

OH MY GOD!!! I want to see this SO bad. somebody put it on tv cause this will be the best show EVER. I mean the boy from oz was a HUGE hit imagine this! AND the have THE HOTTEST MAN ALIVE, HUGH JACKMAN! I hope he takes off his shirt or somethin cause I would just start drooling cause he is so hot! just looking at his face makes me scream with joy!!! mm give me some of that!!!

  • Lisa

Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig. I think I have died and gone to heaven!! I will start saving my money now.

  • Lisa

p-l-e-a-s-e!!! do a live taping of A Steady Rain. So the people that can’t travel to New York; can see what will be a incredibly powerful play!
