Comedian Bill Engvall has been tapped to host the 2009 CMT Music Awards, which air live from Nashville’s Sommet Center on June 16. The fan-voted awards show will feature performances by Trace Adkins, Jason Aldean, Dierks Bentley, Toby Keith, Brad Paisley, Rascal Flatts, Sugarland, Taylor Swift, Keith Urban, and Def Leppard. Voting continues through June 14 on CMT.com.

Other than Urban, Bentley, Paisley, and Sugarland that’s one weak lineup for a country show. Needs some Miranda and Carrie for one thing. Zac Brown Band, Darius Rucker, Jamey Johnson, James Otto, Alan Jackson, and Jake Owen would be good too. Seriously what does Zac Brown Band have to do to get a performance slot at one of these shows? They’re the biggest breakthrough in country this year.
I wish that James Otto was a part of the performance line up, I love him so much!!!

It’s about time that Louisianna’s Big Hunk of Yummy, Trace Adkins, gets included in mainstream country events. He has more talent and integrity in his crooked left pinky finger than usually gets recognized. God Bless Trace & his family
