Finalist Scott MacIntyre rails against 'Idol' for cutting his finale duet

Tags:

American Idol finalist Scott MacIntyre is sounding off against the Fox megahit for cutting his planned dueling-pianos performance with fellow contestant Matt Giraud from last week’s finale. "Perhaps Tatiana and Bikini Girl were more important after all," he jokes in his MySpace blog post. He reveals that the number — which would’ve featured the piano men duking it out on Billy Joel’s "Tell Her About It" — was cut just hours before the live broadcast because Joel couldn’t appear with them. " (A representative for Joel denies that he was was invited to perform with MacIntyre.) According to some of the producers who witnessed our rehearsal, it wasthe most exciting and memorable number of the entire Finale show," MacIntyre writes. "Over the last few days I have tried to reason this out every waypossible, and it makes no sense to me why one of the most compellingand unique performances of the show would be cut simply because theoriginal artist wasn’t present." The 8th-place finisher says he was disappointed not to have truly gotten a memorable moment in the finale, but that producers have promised to make it up to him by having him back to perform next season.

UPDATE: Billy Joel rep says singer was not invited, did not "pull out" of American Idol finale

You know what, Scott and Matt were certainly nowhere near my favourite contestants this season, but this enrages me nonetheless. A dueling piano performance would have been original, it would have been different, and we really could have done without seeing Norman Gentle, Tatiana and Bikini Girl performing the same songs for a 4th time! It’s just disgraceful.
Should Carly and Michael not have performed ‘The Letter’ last year because they weren’t backed by a celebrity? Of course not! I watch this show for the Idols, not to see Rod Stewart or the Black Eyed Peas.

Um…so agreed. The finale of AI should be about the achievement of those who made it on talent, not novelty acts like Bikini Girl, Tatiana and Norman. I was shocked Matt Giraud wasn’t featured (he was 5th – so that was an insult and those who left earlier like Megan, Anoop and Alexis were), and it also explains his Twitter post about initially being bummed about being left out of the finale. He is meant for greater things and was my favorite.

  • …wow…

im sorry but can you say big ego ? i mean i bet it wasnt the best performance of the night no offense to him. hes not even that great of a singer. the only reason i wouuld stand to watch his performances were because of his adorable sister. i feel for him for his condition and all but man can his ego get any bigger ?

I don’t blame Scott for being upset at all.

for the sake of fairness, this is too bad, but really…scott was a below average singer at best, i’m not terribly disappointed that i didn’t hear him at the finale

The whole time while I was watching the finale I was wondering why Matt barely got to sing! Now i know why….
    dumb producers.

I would’ve totally rather seen a “Piano Man” duet-battle than see the loads of meaningless crap we got. Not just Bikini Slut and Tatiana; I could’ve done without the entire “let’s laugh at the mentally retarded people who we trick into singly badly ‘awards’”, the stupid judges banter, the endless Gokey/Richie song… Scott is one of the classiest guys this season and it was wrong for them to completely snub him.

Awe… poor baby… I feel so bad for you. Get over it!

I feel mean even writing this but honestly with Kiss and Queen and Keith Urban on the roster, how exactly did Scott think his was the number to beat? Why would producers lie to him like that and how could he be that naive? Now, I do think Lil’s should have been cut as well, she was a disappointment through the whole competition and didn’t shine in the finale either.

Scott you can sing and play piano but you are not the be all and end all. There is a fine line here, and you are a bit overconfident while Kris won with humility.

  • Lauren

Scott is exactly right. It wasn’t fair at all that he didn’t get a spotlight number.

  • Kelly

Scott just posted the duet on his myspace:

Oh please, don’t bring him back. There’s nothing more whiny about Billy Joel than Scott.

  • KathyK

Aww. That blows; I’d have much preferred Scott and Matt sans Billy Joel than Bikini Girl + Kara. Boo.

    Too bad…
