IFC Films has purchased the American distribution rights to Lars Von Trier’s polarizing film Antichrist. IndieWIRE.com reports that IFC will release the same controversial cut of the film that recently screened at the Cannes Film Festival. In the movie, Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg play a couple who retreat to a wooded cabin to overcome the grief of losing their only child.
No Von Trier film has ever grossed more than $6 million in the United States, but his avant-garde movies (Dogville, Breaking the Waves) are notable for their explicit realism.

I usually don’t bother to comment on these message boards, but I am amazed on how partial and unfair the American public can be. The result of this year’s Idol final was so outrageously wrong. These were two very good contestants but Adam was without doubt by far the best! This was also demonstrated by comments from industry professionals. People undoubtedly voted against Adam because of the fact that he is gay. It is sad to see that homophobia is still alive and well in America. What a shame that is!

It sounds like a truly terrible film, and not just because of the sickening exploitation elements, it also sounds pretentious and boring (kind of like Lars Von Trier when talking about how brilliant he thinks that he is).
Leave it to IFC to buy this waste of celluloid … after all, its the same channel that employs the goofy uber-twink Matt Singer as it’s “entertainment reporter”, and that considers the pathetically infantile “Whitest Kids You Know” to be hilarious, and that obsesses on childish Japanimation cartoons and samurai films to such a nauseating extent that it puts Tarantino’s obsession with them to shame. All of the execs there were undoubtedly born in the 80s, so consider the source.
