Mel Gibson has reached a settlement in a legal dispute with the writer of his 2004 blockbuster The Passion of the Christ, BBC News reports. Benedict Fitzgerald sued Gibson for $10 million last year, claiming the filmmaker understated the budget of the film and should have given him a higher salary. Details of the settlement were not disclosed. Fitzgerald claimed Gibson told him the movie budget was about $7 million, when in fact it came to between $25 and $50 million; he also accused Gibson of refusing him more payments when the film became an unexpected phenomenon, earning $611 million worldwide.
