Johnny Depp in contention for lead in Martin Scorsese's Sinatra biopic?

Tags:

Universal, the studio behind Martin Scorsese’s recently announced Frank Sinatra biopic, has put Johnny Depp at the top of its wish list of actors to play Ol’ Blue Eyes, according to Deadline Hollywood Daily. Scorsese had reportedly been eyeing longtime collaborator Leonardo DiCaprio (Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed) for the lead role. But now that the Universal-produced period-heist picture Public Enemies, starring Depp and Christian Bale, looks like a potential winner, the studio is eager to line up Depp’s next high-profile project. Universal would neither confirm or deny the report; and Depp’s rep says it’s untrue.

Ole Blue Eyes? Johnny Depp? I love Depp – he’s my fave actor, but he’s way too dark complected to look right, I’m just not seeing it. His eyes are nearly black as it is – cannot imagine blue contacts, just can’t. DiCaprio would be better, if I’m being honest. Or how about a nobody – someone up and coming perhaps?

    Holy Cow!!!

I love all things Johnny Depp, but can’t see this one. But he will find a way to pull it off – he always does.

I luv Depp but he is just not right for the part. Leo on the other hand is!

I love all of Martin’s films. However, it seems that there should be someone who can sing in the role. If Johnny can sing, I am for him. He is the greatest actor of his generation. He can pull it off in a big way.

How about Jake Gyllenhaal or James Marsden?

Michael Buble would be perfect. Make-up artists can adjust his age – early/late in life, no? He has the charisma….the voice, indeed….and it would be refreshing to introduce him to movies instead of Johnny or Leonardo. Go for it Michael!!!

Johnny Depp or Leonardo DiCaprio would be the wrong choice. Why not pick a newcomer that can actually sing? Johnny Depp and Leonardo D. are boring choices. Let’s see a fresh face. Old Blue Eyes’ story will sell no matter who plays the part!

i almost hate to say it – di caprio.

I love Johnny Depp, but a guy who had the nickname ‘Ol Blue Eyes, should be played by someone with blue eyes. Johnny Depp’s are brown. Yeah, yeah, yeah nothing that contacts couldn’t fix, but colored contacts always look fake. Johnny could certainly act the part, but I think someone like maybe Chris Pine would be a better choice. Leo is too boyish. Frank always looked more manly than Leo.

It’s likely the studio is floating the rumor of Johnny Depp starring to see what reaction it gets.
It leaves me bored, actually. I’d far rather see Harry Connick jr. play “Ole Blue Eyes.”

Even though I don’t think anyone can possibly pull off Ol’ Blue Eyes completely right.. Uh, James Marsden, people? He’s got the blue eyes, the voice, the look – come on!
Though I wouldn’t be adverse to Chris Pine. But Leonardo Dicaprio? Hell.No.

Perhaps Johnny can wear blue contact’s.

I’d rather see a relatively unknown play Frank so his akwardness and youth come through. There are some great young actors in “Jersey Boys” that would be a perfect fit, I just hope the studio lets Marty have a say in who they sign.
