Daytime Emmy Awards: 'One Life to Live', 'Ellen DeGeneres' top nominations

Nominations for the 36th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, which will air Aug. 30 on The CW, were announced today. All My Children leads the kudos on the soaps side with 19 nods, while The Ellen DeGeneres Show tops the talk shows with a total of 12. For the first time, The View was not nominated in an Outstanding Talk Show category, though its hosts remain represented in the talk show host category. The ceremony itself will be hosted by Ugly Betty‘s Vanessa Williams, who earned a nomination for Outstanding Performer in an Animated Program for voicing Mama in PBS’ Mama Mirabelle’s Home Movies. Her competition includes Amy Poehler (Bessie in Nickelodeon’s The Mighty B!) and Joan Rivers (Bubbe in PBS’ Arthur). For a full list of nominees, click here. A look at the major categories:

Why is Tony Geary nominated in the lead acting category when he takes the summer and winter off?

I watch all the ABC soaps and All my Children has the worst stories, casting and acting, yet it gets the most noms out of the ABC soaps, I don’t even think the voters watch any of these. Kendall? Annie Lavery? Who cares about these characters? Maybe if they were cast and acted well, but they are certainly not.

  • Laura

What a surprise. The nominations are a farce again this year. The powers that be wonder why the viewers don’t watch, well these nominations will not help.

  • stiffy

    I love B & B and it’s about time it’s getting recognition.

  • Kacey

This closet soap fan is definitely happy to finally see some love for Days of Our Lives in the acting categories…let’s see if they can finally win one! What a great good-bye it would be for Rachel Melvin.

    Ellen deserves all those nominations

  • davidsask

    Ellen will sweep as always!
Do they not have Y&R as best show on purpose, so others can win, and no As The World Turns? WTF?
Bryton McClure, The Young and the Restless’ Devon Hamilton (this guy best not win, he is so bad!)
Emily O’Brien, The Young and the Restless’ Jana Fisher (also a turn the channel every time she comes on)
Bradford Anderson, General Hospital’s Damien Spinelli (also hella annoying character and should not win just because of it)
Jeanne Cooper, The Young and the Restless’ Katherine Chancellor (should win for her double role this year)
Christian LeBlanc, The Young and the Restless’ Michael Baldwin (always gets the best acting scenes, his contemporaries must hate him, he should win)
Since when is Tyra informative? and why is she allowed in that category?
    Supporting Actress, N/C

WOW, The young and the Restless did not get a lot did it!! Even though it is the highest rated soap. WOW!!

I can’t believe Y and R is snubbed as best soap and that horrible Bold and Beautiful could be nominated. The only thing B and B is good for is jokes on The Soup! The acting is awful and the story is nothing but incestuous.

  • jones

I am surprised to see Days get some love. I was a huge fan in the 90’s and seem to remember it getting snubbed nearly
    every year for nominations.

  • ricky

I’m glad All My Children is getting some Emmy love again. They have had a great year, especially with the tornado action. Definitely the most improved soap over 2 years ago.

  • Kate

so happy Kirsten Storms got nominated since she was incredibly robbed of one last year.

  • Lily

I’m so glad that Days is getting recognition. Hoping that Berris and especially Rachel Melvin wins.

  • David Mello

    Three words: where’s Bonnie Hunt?
