Broadway mainstays Nathan Lane (The Producers) and Bebe Neuwirth (Chicago) will play Gomez and Morticia Addams in a musical version of The Addams Family, reports The New York Times. The production will make its worldwide debut in Chicago starting Nov. 13, and is set to debut on the Great White Way on April 8, 2010. The plot centers around Wednesday Addams (Krysta Rodriguez of Spring Awakening) and how she deals with turning 18 and getting a boyfriend.

It’s about time that Broadway brought something original to the Broadway musical stage w/something as original as The Addams Family. But please Broadway, DO NOT title it

I’m about ready to pen a Broadway musical entitled “THE MUSICAL, THE MUSICAL” if you get my drift!
I hope they prove me wrong, but does anyone else feel like Bebe Neuwirth is too old and frail (rather than sexy and domineering) and Nathan Lane is too flamboyant (rather than sexy (again) and dark)??

I’m afraid you are wrong, Katie…at least about the Nathan Lane part. Gomez Addams in the cartoons (which is what they are basing this particular show after) is a real goof ball, care free man. Should be a great show. I have tickets to see the first sunday showing (premiere) in Chicago on the 15th. Hope it is great!
I just saw it this weekend and all I can say is amazing! Music,costumes, dancing and sets were brilliant! All he spooky ooky crazy family vibe is there updated! … Define normal!
