Kiefer Sutherland charged with minor assault in New York

Kiefer Sutherland turned himself in to New York authorities Thursday afternoon and was charged with third-degree assault, according to the NYPD. The charge stems from an incident that transpired early Tuesday morning in which the star of Fox’s 24 allegedly head-butted fashion designer Jack McCollough at a Manhattan nightclub. Sutherland arrived at the 1st Precinct Police Department around 4 p.m. and was issued a "desk appearance ticket," which means the actor will be released and will be allowed to travel until his arraignment on June 22.

It’s unclear if Thursday’s assault charge will be considered aviolation of Sutherland’s probation for a 2007 DUI conviction in Los Angeles (for which he served 48 days in jail), which states that the actor must"obey all laws." According to Laurie Levenson, a professor at Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, the court has broad discretion in interpreting Sutherland’s probation. "It doesn’t mean that every time somebody does something wrong, they’re going to have their probation revoked," says Levenson, who adds that Sutherland could receive anything from a stern warning to a night in jail to the maximum sentence for probation violation. Sutherland’s rep was unavailable for comment. 24‘s network and studio, 20th Century Fox TV, had no comment. Sources close to the show do not believe that the situation will impact production at this time; season 8 is expected to begin filming on May 27. (Additional reporting by Dan Snierson)

I believe people can change, but this guy is on how many strikes now? Pull him from 24, let him get some help.

who cares? he was and always will be a brat, regardless of his age, he was brought up by spoilers

He’s hot, but he obviously has issues. Who headbutts another person? That’s a tad barbaric.

i wonder… if he thought he was on the show – doing stunts. you get into that character and it’s tough to get out of it. however not giving him excuses – he has to be soooo embarrassed.

You know just because Kiefer is in his early to mid fourties, does not mean that his father Donald can’t smack him upside the head and say “WHAT THE F-CK IS WRONG WITH YOU?!”
Julia Roberts called off her wedding to him for a reason. Keifer has to go to rehab.

  • Jack Bauer

Who really cares anyway? How many people are assaulted on a daily basis or worse, and who really knows what led to this event, none of you do.

There’s a lot more to this story than is being reported. McCollough is not as innocent as he’s making himself out to be. He DID knock down Brooke Shields (I have no clue why she denied it intially and made Kiefer look like a liar but she revised her statement a few days ago, but of course hardly any media outlets are reporting the revised statement)Even if it was an accident, he should’ve just apologized when Kiefer asked him to instead of giving him attitude and pushing him first. Kiefer may have gone a tad overboard with the head butt but you have give him some credit for trying to stick up for Brooke.

Keifer must think he’s Jack Bauer in real life. His impulsive behavior is a sign of the addictive thinking that got him his DUI in the first pleace.

I think he should grow up, like his father did.. Arlene

How can there be any question Kiefer is in violation of his parole? He broke the guy’s nose! It doesn’t matter what the situation was, Kiefer’s not the arbiter of justice in this society and he can’t go around breaking the noses of people he decides are guilty of something.

i like kefir, but only in blueberry… if it’s donald-related it must taste like butt-crack
