NBC has given The Office‘s Mindy Kaling a two-year, seven-year overall deal that includes her developing and starring in her own comedy series, Variety reports. The writer-producer-actress tells Variety that in addition to workplace comedies, she also likes buddy shows like Flight of the Conchords. "I’ve always wanted to do another show about women," she says.
Kaling, who plays Kelly on The Office, will continue writing for the NBC comedy, which she also co-executive produces.
That would be the worse thing to happen, her talents as a writer have significantly diminished, which is a shame since she wrote some great early episodes of the office.
