Ryan Reynolds to headline 'Wolverine' spin-off 'Deadpool'

Categories: Movies

Deadpool is getting his own X-Men spin-off, according to Variety. Ryan Reynolds, who plays the Marvel superhero in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, will resurrect Wade Wilson, a cancer-stricken soldier who becomes an indestructible renegade mutant after submitting to the military’s top-secret Weapon X experiment. At the end of Wolverine, Deadpool is seen rising from the rubble and whispering "Shhh" to audiences.

Fox is reportedly simultaneously moving forward on three other X-Men projects, including a Wolverine sequel.

    AHHHHH! Remove this spoiler pronto!

  • kitty

Did you really just print that spoiler? I’m going to see the movie tonight. Thanks for that.

  • Colin

    I HAVE’NT SEEN WOLVERINE YET — PISS!!

  • Tracey

I can’t believe you just printed that spoiler without a warning! Terrible, just terrible.

  • NoName

I saw and missed that ending. That must have been one of those after the credit things. I hate it when they do that!

  • Mariah

For the record, you may not see it. It’s an after credits scene that isn’t included with every reel of the movie. There are alternate scenes.

  • harry

    COOOOOOL!!!

  • Doug

relax. this isn’t a spoiler. Jus’watch the friggin movie, fanboy.

  • Veronica Walden

Dear spoiler, if you are going to spoil one of the endings can you also reveal the other endings, (hint: bar scene)so I do not have to buy the DVD to see the others. Thanks

  • Renee’

    Take this spoiler off !!

  • Celestino Martinez2311

Dude, I Haven’t seen Wolverine yet !! Take this off !!!

  • Jason C

You people do realize that there is another easter egg after the credits, so you might not even see the one they showed here (the two easter eggs are sporadically spread out at different showings so you won’t get both at one showing).

  • bunnyfear

That is in every conceivable way a spoiler. Post credit scenes are hidden for a reason. Thanks a lot for ruining what would’ve been a fun surprise.

aaaaawwww yeeeaaahhh!! Ryan was so badass as Wade for that 15 mintues he was in the movie. Deadpool and Ryan do deserve a whole movie. and now the writers can do the story comic-book accurate and appease the fanboys/girls who are so up in arms about how Deadpool was treated in Wolverine. i figured it was gonna be done, but damn, that confirmation came quick.

  • Allison

gah i missed that! I only saw Wolverine in the bar!

  • mel

I think calling this a spoiler is negated by the fact that Fox has announced this movie. (Which has to be a sequel -right? Since Deadpool’s mutant origins are mostly in Wolverine’s?) And logically a sequel would probably involve the survival of the Deadpool character from the Wolverine movie. Although I am starting to rethink trying to apply logic (of the internal, story-line variety) to comic books and their movies.

  • Samantha

It’s NOT A SPOILER, drama queens. It’s after the credits, and what the hell does it actually spoil?

  • Benny

I saw the movie yesterday but didn’t stay till the very end to see Deadpool saying that. But definitely spoiler alert! EW should say that first!!

  • trepithet

Yesssssss! I haven’t seen Wolverine yet, but I’m glad Deadpool will get his own movie and that he’s already breaking down the fourth wall of our hearts.

  • colin

All this is spoiling is how godforsaken awful Wolverine is. They’ve set up an absolutely terrible interpretation of Deadpool; they either stick with that for another terrible movie or they retcon what they did and look like fools.

  • Jane

I stayed till the end of the credits and the last clip was Wolverine at the bar. Are they only showing the Deadpool shsshing clip in certain theaters?

  • Andy F

I didn’t get Wolvie in the bar, just the “ssshh”…so I guess we’re even.

  • bruno

oh, well thank you for ruining the end of wolverine for me…cheers.

  • melissa

Jane — yes, some theaters get the Wolverine-at-a-bar ending, and others get the Deadpool ending (which my theater got).

Reynold’s was appealing in what was an other wise pretty disappointing film. Still how many superhero films can you make without the genre burning it self out.

So Magneto, Prof. X, and Deadpool? Talk about overkill…

How about and Rogue and Gambit film. Who cares about Ryan Reynolds.

  • Mr. Williams

That’s cool, but I want to see screen adaptations of “The Dark Phoenix Saga”, “Days of Future Past”, “Giant Size X-Men #1″.

  • C

    I thought Deadpool was beheaded?!

  • B

I agree with C, wasn’t Deadpool beheaded by Wolverine in the final minutes?! My showing featured the bar clip.
