Of course many agree with your point, this is an Entertainment Weekly article, not an article on a true musician site.
Hey what a clever marketing gimmick! Maybe I’ll sue Coldplay too and get some publicity. Hope the increased album sales for all these artists work out to be more than the legal fees.
He’s suing the wrong person -
If Coldplay did actually copy Joe’s song then shouldn’t Cat be suing Joe since his plagiarism came first? Better yet, sue them both. Don’t just single out one.
What a freakin joke. Jealous suckers can’t handle someone else’s success
They should get in line here – the very beginning of the song is stolen from Annie Lenox/Eurythmics’ “Walking on Broken Glass”. Just listen to those strings (all over again!)
the whole point here is, cat never said he was seeking to sue anyone… he was simply making the very legit point that if anybody has a right to sue over the melody, it’s him, considering it came from him first. was he supposed to just sit back and let everyone duke it out over something that was his in the first place? publicity stunt or not, anyone would speak up given that the issue was out there.
cat in 1973:
I would be very disapointed if C_ I mean Yusuf, were to follow up on any legal stuff…. I’d be more expecting a “We can all get along, and I’m pleased if they liked my stuff so much it led to them conciously or unconciously mix some of his music into their own.
live and let live
