After battling cancer for more than 10 years, American Idol star David Cook’s brother, Adam, 37, succumbed to the disease Saturday. David made the announcement at the Washington D.C. Race for Hope 5K, which raises money to support finding a cure for brain cancer, this morning. "Like everybody here, I’m affected by this disease. I actually lost my brother yesterday to a brain tumor," Cook said, as you can hear members of the crowd gasping. "I couldn’t imagine… I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else right now." David was serving as grand marshal of the event and ran the 3.1 miles in 28 minutes. "I lost one today," Cook added. "But I’ve gained 9,000 and I will be here every year that they will have me."
In honor of Adam’s memory, fans can make donations to David’s Race for Hope team, the singer’s rep tells EW. (Contributions will be accepted through Sept. 30.) So far, the team has raised more than $51,000.

My heart goes out to the Cook family. 10 years is a long hard battle. You could always tell how proud David was to be Adam’s brother. I suggest to anyone to go listen to David’s “Permanent”, and “A Daily AntheM” to see how much he cared about his brother.
I’m so sorry to hear this about Adam, David. We’ve followed you and him since AI first started last year for you and heard all the stories about your relationship with him. I’m so glad he was able to see you through to your new journey in life, entertaining everyone with your wonderful music and helping others that suffer as Adam did. He will always be watching over you and was certainly proud of his brother. Take care during this time and know we love you.

Wasn’t a fan of his last year, but he has true class. My condolences to him and his family.
I’m so sad to hear this. I first connected with David after hearing about his brother, because my grandfather was dying of liver cancer at the time. I feel for him and I wish the best for him in this difficult time. His fans truly love him.

Just to be clear – David Cook has two brothers, Adam was older and died Saturday after being very ill for a long time. His younger brother, Andrew,the one seen on Idol frequently, is a college senior.
So sad for David Cook and his family. He is so classy; never ever used his brother’s illness for sympathy votes on AI, but has used his AI win to help raise money for cancer research. Love him. The AI moment when he sang “Always Be My Baby” for Adam who was able to make it to the show with generous donations from fans – wow, that was a Moment.

Why should we care David Cooks brother died. Why? Because David is a part of us all. For weeks he was a part of all our lives and we loved him. And we care. Whether its his brother or mother or cousin David is a part of us all and we greive with him. His brother pushed him into the Idol contest. His brother gave AMERICA and the world David Cook. God Bless them all.
A classmate of mine died a few years ago after his ten-year battle with brain cancer, and all my friends and I were devastated. I cannot begin to imagine the pain David is going through right now. My thoughts and prayers are with David and his family, and I wish them all the best.

To David and his family. I lost my brother about 18 months ago to brain cancer, he only had it 2 months and was only 38. It is devasting. My prayers are with all of you.
