According to reports in Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, NBC has picked up the John Wells cop drama Southland for 13 episodes, likely for a spot on the network’s fall schedule. The drama has averaged 9.2 million viewers in its Thursday at 10 p.m. timeslot since debuting April 9. Next fall it will likely make the move to the 9 p.m. hour (not necessarily on Thursday night, unless NBC dismantles its comedy block) to make way for The Jay Leno Show, which will air Monday through Friday at 10 p.m. NBC execs are prepping for their "Infront" presentation this coming Monday, when they’ll reveal their fall schedule to advertisers in New York. Because of that, news about several other on-the-bubble NBC shows — like Chuck, Medium, Law & Order, My Name is Earl, and Parks & Recreation — will be forthcoming.

Let’s go Chuck!!!
Southland is good, Chuck is WAY better
this better mean that Chuck is coming back too!!!
9.2 million viewers… is that good for a new show like Southland? Because i am really liking that show, and i want it to do well.
Oh, go away Chuck fans!
Yay for Southland, I love this show so much.
Great news! Finally some good news from NBC. So that’s 2 out of 5 shows from the 10 pm ET timeslot picked up. That leaves Medium, and L&O. And of course the other “bubble” shows. Something I hear about Chuck? Vague remember hearing something about that

they better not cancel Parks & Recreation
Good, I haven’t seen every episode but I was impressed with what I saw and think it can grow into a great show. Now all that they need to do is renew P & R and please pick up Chuck. I think they are holding out until monday so that they can surprise everyone with the pick up.
I really like this show. I’d pretty much watch anything with Regina King in it, but this is a great show and I’m glad it’s on the Fall schedule. Better not mess with L&O!!!
I really like this show. All the character’s have great compelling storylines. I convinced my sister to watch last week because she loves Ben McKenzie. We didn’t even notice he wasn’t in the episode until the end because we were so caught up in this week’s drama. So there isn’t just one person we are all tuning in for.
I like this news. So far I’ve only seen the pilot, but man, what a pilot. Seems like a good cast, concept, writing, etc.
I’m glad Southland is doing well, it seems like a really good show, but I will be distraught if Medium is cancelled. It is just such a wonderfully real depiction of family life. I hope NBC knows what it’s doing with this Leno move. At least it’s better than ABC and gives its shows a chance — since Life on Mars got cancelled, I will not start a new ABC show.
I have been hooked on SOUTHLAND since the pilot and have loved it. Its nothing new, but to me it is riveting television and the acting is wonderful. I don’t know about the rest of you but Ben McKensie suprised me in this show. Yes I have seen JUNEBUG but he never has seemed so relatable and real (as real as writers make it) until this show
NBC will probably cancel L&O which after all these many years is not an outrage. What is an outrage is if they do cancel it Dick Wolf should have been given the courtesy of cancelation in March so his team could have crafted a proper finale for a show that gave NBC 19 years of loyal service. Shame on them. Granted L&O would not have gotten the ER red-carpet send-off, but still L&O deserved a classy send-off befitting a show that performed reliably and loyally for NBC for 19 years. If it is canceled without the earned privilege of a classy send-off from their network, it will be an insult to Wolf and the entire L&O team.
The 5 people that like Chuck have posted here as they do in every article regardless of the topic..lol
I love this show…i hope it continues to do well!
I love BEN McKenzie…loved him on the OC & loved him on JUNEBUG!!
Is anyone excited about the Jay Leno show? Not that I have anything against Leno, but I feel a lot of great scripted programming is going to fall to the wayside to accomodate for Leno. Why didn’t he just on the Tonight show again?

CHUCK’S BEEN SAVED…ALLEGEDLY!
One guy can’t carry a network. It’s plan and simple. It’s great to see a great show like Southland back.

You know what shows we don’t have enough of? Cop shows. I never see medical shows on TV either. It’s like those are the 2 genres that are missing from prime time TV.
Thank god NBC renewed Southland instead of something like Chuck, because we need more cop shows.
I’m also glad that NBC doesn’t put a show on Monday at 8pm (the toughest slot on primetime TV) and then complain about it’s lack of viewers. Because that would be down right ridiculous!
I can’t wait for the upfronts – I am really hoping Parenthood gets picked up – the cast is unbelievable and the director and Ron Howard – there’s no way it can be anything but fantastic. I am also hoping for Community with Chevy Chase. I just hope the whole Jay Leno taking up 5 hours doesn’t mess with these great shows. NBC needs some great shows so I hope they don’t let these slip away.
Yay! I really like Southland glad to see its getting a fighting chance!
Whomever floated the idea that they should strip the Leno show at 8 p.m. had a good idea. NBC doesn’t have an 8 p.m. show that’s doing anything great ratings wise. Put Leno at 8 p.m. you space out the “late night glut”, maybe promote a show coming up at 9 or 10 p.m. and open up the 9-11 p.m. slots for comedies and dramas with a bit more of an edge.

Chuck fans are my friends!! I didn’t bother watching it this season but you guys are very inspiring!! I might get back into the show!! Keep fighting for it guys!!
More info on what’s going on with the Southland renewal and with NBC can be found at Variety.com. I wouldn’t expect a whole lot of information, on Monday, about renewals. As for Chuck fans, the posts – (and there are many) – are ALL RUMORS. I wouldn’t put much stock in them! Looks like now we’ll all have to wait to mid month to get the decisions many are waiting for.
The viewers for the first show were around 9 mil. The show has slipped to 6.5 mil. Ratings info isn’t too hard to find…
Southland’s numbers have been tanking badly since its premiere. I can’t figure out why it gets renewed and other shows, with a well established
audience and reasonable, (but not great) numbers, are already out of the renewal race – or so it seems.
If the life or renewal of a TV show is all about numbers, Southland should be, at best, part of the ‘on the bubble’ group. Looks like there is a whole lot more to how a show gets renewed than simply the numbers !
Parenthood was already a series starring Ed Begley,Jr.. It didn’t make it then and it won’t make it now.
NBC picks up Medium, Chuck and Law & Order

Does the 9pm showing and the recent Supreme Court “decency” ruling mean they have to tame down Southland? Hope not. I like it the way it is
