Jay Leno says exhaustion caused last week's hospitalization

Tagged:

Jay Leno was hospitalized and missed two tapings of The Tonight Show last week because of "exhaustion." The cause of the late night host’s sudden illness remained a mystery until he told People.com he had gotten "worn out" from the rigorous schedule of his nightly talk show in addition to writing columns for various car-related publications and doing standup comedy performances.

You know what they should do? Give him his own PRIMETIME show five night per week!

People has this story covered. You don’t need to report it too. You have enough content to fill your wonderful site without posting nonsense non-news like this. It’s a really disappointing trend.

  • JJ

And they want to give him 5 primetime hours a week?
Silly idea, and this is exactly why you don’t give out 5 primetime hours to one project.

  • mario

and how will this affect his health when his tv shows at 10pm in the fall starts?

Exhausted? Really? Cause after I work multiple shifts of various lengths (like 10 shifts, 12 hrs each in a row) and I’m exhausted, I usually just man-up and sleep in my own bed for a few days. WUSS!

Hmmm … Exhaustion? Who else has been hospitalized for exhaustion? Mariah Carey, Dave Chappelle, Amy Winehouse, Lindsay Lohan, et al … Jay, do you really wanna join that group, or would you rather pull a Letterman and show up and prove that old show-biz addage – “the show must go on!”
Sorry Jay, but that’s just pathetic.

Jay’s an old guy. Give him a break!

I believe that it was reported that he had a fever, so I suspect that being run down must have contributed to him catching something. Give the guy a break, everybody gets sick sometimes.

He’s probably the first person for whom that diagnosis makes perfect sense. He’s constantly working and even had to be forced by NBC to take a vacation from The Tonight Show. I wouldn’t be surprised if he hadn’t taken any real time off in at least a decade.

Enough with the shaking hands with the audience at the beginning of each show. It is so insincere and phoney. It perpetuates the phoniness of Hollywood. Shaking half the people’s hands with the back of his left hand and missing so many, who want to touch him. It’s also dangerous to everyone’s health in this swine flu era.
Other than that, he is a very good standup comedien and I wish him well with his health. His schedule must be exhausting. Jay, it’s time to take some time off from a fellow Bostonian.
    Rick from Cohasset and Harvard.

“swine flu era”?! dude, sell your face mask and black market Tamiflu. the swine flu threat is being way overhyped by the media during a slow news cycle. one death in the USA? whoa…better find an underground bunker. it’s almost as deadly as a Chinatown Taco Bell.

    To Susan:
Like People magazine don’t repeat things EW or other mags said either. Besides, I’m guessing the majority of EW readers like myself don’t even give a crap, so why should we care if People broke the story first? Besides, it’s only a five line blurb. It’s not the end of the world if EW posts it too.
Although I do wish Jay a full recovery (regardless of what you think of him as a late night talk show host, he’s still human), this does prove Jay’s 10 PM EST slot on NBC next season might be a bad idea if his health’s not up to snuff.

Maybe Jay Leno is just ready to end this Tonight Show run after 17 years and the exhaustion showed the other week. (He just can’t wait to walk away from it the end of May) That endless pattern of doing show after show, taping after taping and doing all those other ventures might have made him tired. I’m sure he hasn’t taken a break or a weeks-long summer vacation like the rest of us. Lastly, I’m sure he wants to end to get away from those segments of some really dumb people who don’t know the answers to familiar famous people or politicians. I HATED that!

  • dd

maybe he should call it quits rather than steal primetime from other quality tv shows!!!because of him,NBC is cancelling alot of good tv shows so idiot leno can have 5 hours every week!!!screw you leno..

  • Coyote

Maybe Leno and/or NBC have listened to the blogs and are now trying to find a way to reverse their stupid decision to waste 5 hours of prime time to this guy. “Exhaustion” may be the first step.
