Blood Diamond screenwriter Charles Leavitt will pen the adaptation, while Halperin and Heilemann serve as consultants on the film. "It’s funny to call Obama and Hillary characters, but that’s how I haveto look at them," Leavitt told the trade. "To me, the primary was one of thegreatest title fights of the century, and John and Mark have a treasurechest of anecdotes and inside stories. I think it will present itselfalmost like a stage play, like Frost/Nixon or The Queen."

John McTiernan directs documentary claiming Karl Rove targeted Democrats

Categories: Movies, Politics

Die Hard director John McTiernan, who is awaiting a new indictment for allegedly lying to an FBI agent during the investigation of the Anthony Pellicano wiretapping scandal, has directed a documentary that claims Karl Rove pursued the Pellicano case as part of a general conspiracy under the Bush administration to prosecute Democrats. According to The New York Times, McTiernan does not expect to release The Political Prosecutions of Karl Rove commercially, but will make it viewable on the web site http://www.politicalprosecutions.org/. In the film, he claims that federal officials called for two of Hillary Clinton’s biggest contributors — Ron Burkle and Stephen Bing — to testify in the Pellicano case, and that Hillary Clinton was widely reported to have had help fromPellicano when the Bill Clinton-Gennifer Flowers scandal broke in 1992. McTiernan’s documentary proposes that the purpose of prosecuting Pellicano was to turn up dirt that could be used against Clinton if she’d become the Democratic presidential nominee. Sheena Tahilramani, a representative for Karl Rove, told The New York Times that he hadnot seen the documentary, but that "Accepting Mr. McTiernan’s wild theory requires notonly the suspension of willing disbelief, but of all mental activity."

"This is an embarrassing and ham-fisted cataloging error for a companythat prides itself on offering complete selection. It has beenmisreported that the issue was limited to Gay & Lesbian themedtitles — in fact, it impacted 57,310 books in a number of broadcategories such as Health, Mind & Body, Reproductive & SexualMedicine, and Erotica. This problem impacted books not just in theUnited States but globally. It affected not just sales rank but alsohad the effect of removing the books from Amazon’s main product search. Many books have now been fixed and we’re in the process of fixing theremainder as quickly as possible, and we intend to implement newmeasures to make this kind of accident less likely to occur in thefuture."

Al Franken inches closer to victory in Senate contest

Categories: Politics

Comedian-turned-candidate Al Franken may be one step closer to becoming Minnesota’s next senator, the Associated Press reports. A three-judge panel rejected the claims of Franken’s opponent, incumbent Norm Coleman, maintaining that Franken won the most votes in last year’s senatorial contest. "Franken received the highest number of legally cast ballots in the November 4, 2008 general election for United States Senator for the State of Minnesota and is entitled to receive the election certificate," the judges decreed.

Saturday Night Live alum Franken and opponent Coleman have spent the past five months continuing to wage their campaigns in the courts, with Franken holding a narrow lead over the incumbent from the earliest November tallies. Last week, the judges oversaw the counting of 351 absentee ballots that had been tossed out by election officials, after which Franken increased his lead to 312 votes — in a state of nearly 3.2 million registered voters. Coleman has 10 days to file an expected appeal to the state supreme court.
