Judge's ruling paves the way for return of Rihanna's borrowed jewelry

A Los Angeles judge ruled today that the LAPD can take photographs of several jewelry items for evidence in Chris Brown’s trial, with the understanding that the jewelry itself will likely be returned to Rihanna as requested, a spokesperson for the L.A. district attorney tells EW. The LAPD has held roughly $1 million worth of Rihanna’s borrowed jewelry and accessories in evidence since she was allegedly attacked by Brown in February. Neither Brown nor Rihanna was present at today’s hearing. The judge also set a date of May 28 for the next preliminary hearing in Brown’s trial on felony counts of assault and making criminal threats.

UPDATE: Rihanna’s attorney, Donald Etra, tells EW that the jewelry will most likely be returned to his client later today: "I expect it to happen before the end of the day."
