'Scrubs' in talks with ABC for ninth season

Tags:

ABC may renew Scrubs for a ninth season, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The network is in talks to bring the sitcom back with some or all of the original cast members in full- or part-time roles. Series creator Bill Lawrence, who’s also at work on Courteney Cox pilot Cougar Town for the network, is involved in the discussions with the studio, network, and cast, whose deals don’t extend beyond the current eighth season. There has been talk about making Scrubs a comedy version of ER, with a revolving cast — and, to wit, the show has integrated a new set of interns this year. Original  cast could return in recurring roles: Zach Braff has said this year is his last, while Donald Faison, John C. McGinley, and Neil Flynn are all in other pilots up for fall consideration. The series has garnered solid, if not spectacular, ratings on Wednesdays after moving to ABC from NBC this season.

Oh god. Cancel this show already!

If they could bring back Cox, Turk, Bob Kelso, Deniece (Jo), and a few others like Elliot’s Ex (Shaun), then the show could be pretty good. It’d be nice if they could get Ted and Janitor as well.

I am a die-hard Scrubs fan, and I still tune in weekly, but the last two seasons have been pretty poor… especially so with members of the regular cast sitting on episodes. It’s just getting old! Please stop on a high!

I ask one question Why? This show has run its course. It’s time to end it.

    I agree with K.
I love this show and still watch the episodes on TV. However, for anyone who’s watched the show from the start (and even for people who’ve just caught up on Comedy Central) it’s been painfully obvious that the show is NOT as good as it was and it’s just time to end.
I was ecstatic to see ABC pick it up after the strike-shortened disgrace of a seventh season so the show could end properly with a full eighth season. However, keeping it going beyond that with only some of the cast is sort of stretching it in my opinion.
Please, just end this show on a (semi)high note. (This season has been ok-to-pretty decent.) I’m just not too thrilled about a prospective “Scrubs Lite” or “Scrubs: The New Class.”

This season has been way better than expected…please let’s just have it go out on top. I don’t want new people.

Why doesn’t ABC let this show rest in peace. Geesh they must be desparate for content.

  • MWC

It’s only worth saving if the full cast comes back.

    Just let it die already!

Either way, Scrubs proper ends next week. I’m ok with a slightly rebranded show next year, if only to serve as a solid pair-off for new gem “Better off Ted” (didn’t like the pilot? Check out eps 4 and 5, HI-larious). ABC seems keen on their new comedy night, and adding Cougar Town into the mix will give them a solid evening.

    Scrubs is still on?

  • Jordan

Seriously? There’s gotta be a pilot out there somewhere that’s better than Scrubs…and I love this show. But, it’s time.

  • Ceballos

I mean, really, what is ABC doing?
They kill promising shows like “Pushing Daisies”, “Eli Stone”, etc., but they seem ready to keep an 8-year-old past its prime comedy. (I know “Scrubs” is probably cheaper to produce, but still.)

It won’t be the same without its cast. It feels just wrong. Besides, it seems like everyone has moved on.

Let me add to the chorus: I loved this show and have never missed an episode, but it is time for it to go. Please don’t save this show!
