Melissa Rycroft will be sitting out tonight at Dancing With the Stars, thanks to a hairline fracture of the ribs, the Associated Press reports. While practicing with partner Tony Dovolani the former Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader and star of The Bachelor aggravated an injury she suffered last week, forcing her to miss tonight’s performance (though she is expected to stay in the competition). In a pre-taped segment Rycroft told the Dancing audience, “I hurt my ribs last week doing a difficult move. It was feeling better and then I hurt myself again….I felt a blinding pain shoot down my side, so we decided it would be best to go actually have a doctor check it out.” Rycroft is one of many Dancing competitors sidelined by an injury. Steve Wozniak, Steve-O, and Gilles Marini have all been hurt during the season, while Nancy O’Dell and Jewel pulled out of the competition with injuries before the season premiered.
A show insider tells EW that Rycroft is expected to be back on the show Tuesday night, and that if she isn’t eliminated, she wants to continue on the show.

Another injury? Wow. I have to admit I have a whole new respect for dancers.

That’s too bad. Tony D. had put together another powerhouse routine. But the rehearsal footage still looked really good even though they were just marking it. I knew something was wrong when we walked down the stairs alone. He had that I just lost my best friend look on his face.
we = he
Tony’s face said it all as he walked alone down the stairs at the beginning. This was the first time that Tony has been able to really showcase his choreography and each week just got better and better. If Steve O could be saved after using a practice film, I hope Melissa can be saved too. Get well soon!
I’m very sorry about Melissa’s injury – it’s obvious she’s a talented dancer with a strong work ethic – she takes those rehearsals VERY seriously – all of the dancers work so hard and their instructors are amazing. All the dancers are excelling and it will be hard to see anyone go home. I hope Melissa is able to compete next week and isn’t sent home tonight – she and Tony have been absolutely lovely to watch. It takes tremendous discipline to do what these people do every week – hard work. They shine!
I’m a physical therapist – I absolutely love DWTS, but with all the injuries this season, it makes me wonder about their conditioning requirements. The stars need to precondition before they start aggressively dancing!
Couldn’t have happened to anyone nicer. I wish this woman would just disppear. She’s no celebrity, she’s accomplished nothing other than appearing on a trashy reality show, and then she’s crushed when she is dumped. DUH! Stupid cow, did you really expect to find love on a game show? Stupid woman. Send her back to Texas. Let’s never hear about her again. Ever, ever, ever. Maybe next season I will watch again. I’d rathers see a C-list celebrity than another reality show skank like her.
I think she should be in the competition to begin with. She got paid to dance….that is what the DCC do, dance routines! So that makes her a professional.
Opps…typo…that should read she should NOT be in the competition!
Mary, good grief what in the world is your problem? I’d hate to be on your bad side. Melissa is a good dancer and has proven it. She and Tony are fun to watch. That is what the show is about. Making remarks like her injury herself couldn’t happen to a nicer person is just uncalled for. Apparently you have some deeper issues that is making you so bitter. The rest of the contry lovers Melissa.
smc, a lot of the other people who have appeared on DWTS have been paid to dance, like Drew Lachey and Lance Bass, who as performers in pop bands were paid to sing and dance at concerts and in videos, and I’m forgetting their names, but the girl who was a Cheeta Girl, and the girl who was in HS Musical are performers who were paid to dance. So Melissa being a former cheerleader is really no different.
The show was really boring last night. Without Melissa there and Gilles not being at his best, it just lost the sparkle for me. I want them all to stay with the exception of Chuck. He is just irritating and boring.
Mary,
Where does all that hate come from? Get some therapy and then get a life.
Hmmm, smc, last time I checked DCC don’t ballroom dance in their routines. . .
Mel was sweet when she cried after being kept on the show. Btw I have a blog for Jillian, http://www.jillianfanblog.blogspot.com
