Fox to air 'Lie to Me' instead of Obama news conference

The Fox network announced today that it will not air President Barack Obama’s primetime news conference this Wednesday at 8pm (ET), and will air the regularly scheduled drama Lie to Me instead. It is the first time a major broadcast network has declined Obama’s request to break into the primetime broadcasting schedule. Lie to Me viewers will see an on-screen graphic informing them that sister cable networks Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network will air Obama’s press conference in its entirety.

Talk about it on PopWatch:
Fox skips Obama news conference, but is that a big deal?

I voted for him but the man is not God Almighty come down to save us. I’ll be watching “Lie To Me”!

  • david lomar

Good call FOX. Obama doesn’t need so many hours on PRIMETIME.

  • rebecca

thank you fox, my new favorite channel!!! stinks for you obama!!!!!!

  • C

FOX and its followers are SCUMBAGS! And you are losing!

  • Bigpemr

and they say fox isn’t right wing

  • Beans

Makes sense. If they actually show him talking about the steps forward his administration has made it’ll make the teabaggers (and Fox, who funded and promoted their rallies) look even more foolish.

  • AuntieMM

THANK YOU FOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This man is too happy to hear himself talk…there is nothing of any urgency for him to say Wednesday that I can’t pick up on the web or tv later.

  • Woody7

YAY!!! I am an Obama supporter, but I also love Lie to Me. I will be watching.

  • John

Obama is going crazy with all this TV stuff. We don’t need to see him every week. He is turning into a petty dictator!!

  • april

FOX, YOU RULE! THANBKYOU FOR NOT AIRING OBAMA’S SPEECH. ANYTHING ELSE IS MUCH MORE ENTERTAINING.
OBAMA, YOUR 15 MINUTES ARE UP!!!

  • Stephie

    Proud of you Fox!

  • ThatDeborahGirl

What kind of treasonist backwards racist tripe are you people agreeing to?
This is not just some guy – we’re talking about the POTUS! You all worse than disrespectful and ridiculous unpatriotic and anti-American for believing that FOX is on the righteous side of things for this travesty.
Disgustingly shameful. For them and for all of you who approve.

  • Jerry

Fox watchers are losing? Check back in 2010, after the mid-term Congressional races, and see who won. The honeymoon is over, hippies. Time to take a shower and get a real job

  • Shane

    @ThatDeborahGirl
What does this have to do with racism? All the networks have complained that these press conferences are costing them money. Why don’t you try taking a business class. It’s good that Fox News is airing it, but Fox doesn’t need to.

  • Tim

Wow! Look at all the dead brains that think that reality is less important than another hour of nearly mindless entertainment. Yee ha! Murdock is one swastika short of a full Nazi, and he’s got you guys in his pocket. How delightful.

We are still in the midst of the biggest financial crisis since the great depression and we are on the verge of world pandemic with the emergence of the swine flu, yet Fox thinks it’s a good idea to air “Lie to Me” and American Idol, instead of airing a presidential address to keep the nation informed…say what you about political loyalties and Fox’s insistence to show new episodes of “lie to me” to prevent viewership erosion, but there has to be a sense of civic duty to show the presidential address, when we have an emerging pandemic that could spread quickly and affect millions of people

  • a

thank you fox, i don’t need to know whats going on in my government. i choose to stay ignorant and just complain.

  • Tim

Lucky that ‘American Idol’ is such a money maker or this would be an obvious religious nutso move on the part of Fox.

  • Freckles

If the press conference is on every other channel why should Fox be forced to air it?? Thank (the real) God we have a choice and can watch or not! I won’t be watching the news as I’m sure we’ll see it over and over and over and over and . . . . . .’til we puke.

  • justkeepingitreal

Honestly, why does the president have to interrupt the regular programming for his speeches? News cable can but all the rest of the channel should only do this when something extremely important needs to be addressed like say when 911 happened or maybe if the president do this once in a year. But for crying out loud, he had 4 already in 100 days!!! get that! I really thought he would make a good president but now, I am beginning to see how arrogant he is not to mention the need to please everyone which for a president is not a quality one should be very concern about. He has to take a firm stand on issues and stop sucking into everyone’s *** just so he can maintain his popularity. c’mon, arent you guys pissed when your tivo recording of House turned into an address of the president you can find a full text of in the internet?

  • JDavis

    You go FOX. Enough already!

  • SUZIE

Oh boy- not that we need another channel of this coverage but Murdoch and his fools at FOX are bad news- They hate the president, are upset (and jealous) beyond belief because they lost. If there were a good reason I would say “Okay, it’s all all right.” but we know their true motive.

  • redsrock

What is the complaint??? Does the address really need to be on every network?

  • Wes

Wow, Lie to Me. How appropriate, Fox.

  • Danielle

Thank God for FOX! Enough of Obama, already. If I want to know what’s going on in the world, I can read it on the Internet or the newspapers, watch the news on TV, or listen to talk radio. Obama is so full of himself, he makes me sick. When I want to watch TV, it’s for escapism. Thank you FOX TV!

  • Jeffrey C

Why bash FOX? They are carrying the full conference on two other affiliate networks, and people without cable can get it on NBC, CBS, and ABC. Why cant FOX be pro-choice and give people an alternative to the Obama prime-time press conference? Do the people are are offended that FOX wouldnt carry it also be offended if ESPN, HBO, MTV, and Game Show Network did not carry it?
If you want to watch it, you have plenty of choice. People who do not also have a choice.

  • KAH

If Rupert Murdoch didn’t think of / make this decision himself, I’ll eat my own underwear.
To those saying “enough already”: escapism is good, so long as it’s not at the expense of being an informed U.S. citizen. Given the tanking economy and the potential swine flu pandemic, choosing to show Lie To Me instead of a briefing on these IMPORTANT issues is just baffling. This is purely political in nature.
and Jerry, if you think the GOP is taking over in the 2010 midterm elections, you’re DREAMING. Republican support just isn’t there man, I’m sorry.

  • A

That’s a good question, redsrock. One I’ve asked repeatedly over the years, when Doofus Dub took to the airwaves to tell us Iraq was behind 9/11, “mission accomplished,” and “‘Merca does not torture.” If one of the major affiliates “declined” to show our previous prez is all his lying glory, they would have been torn a new one, just as I was for asing the very same question you asked. I think I’m just numb to the hypocrisy at this point……..

  • bj

Amazing Obama bashing already. I can understand thatpeople may not like him and FOX has the right to not air the speech. But the thing is this President is far more open than the last. Has he been on vacation for more than a month? At least he is being open with the public

  • Tom

Thank you FOX! Obama has hogged the air waves relentlessly in his first 100 days. There are many other networks for viewers to view their chosen one. Go there.
