CBS moves 'Harper's Island' to Saturday

Categories: Television

Rather than canceling the struggling serialized murder mystery Harper’s Island, CBS announced today it will move the show from Thursdays at 10pm to Saturdays at 9pm, starting May 2. According to a network release, the 13-week limited series showed improvement in DVR and online viewership, an indication that it had enough of an audience to sustain the show through the end of its run.

Will there be a new Harper’s Island this Thursday and Saturday?

  • tessa

i really like the show!! its fun…some of the acting is painful, why did they kill Harry Hamlin in first episode?…but it has the cutie from ‘ugly betty’ come on peops…give the show a chance..

  • Adam

I’m relieved that their planning on airing all 13 eps, but sad that it is being moved. Of course I’ll keep watching it – I’ve been enjoying it – just a little bummed.

  • allie

If they cancel this I will be so pissed!!! It’s 13 episodes…. they can’t just leave it alone?? Actually this will be good because I was having to DVR Harper’s Island and Southland.

  • Don Jariyasunant

I guess CBS viewers just don’t like serial dramas for some reason. I will be watching until the very end. I think CBS just set the bar way too high expecting this to do so well out of CSI. The CSI demographic and the audience this show is aiming for are apples and oranges.

  • James

Well it is a good show and an intriguing miniseries, I’ll watch now that I’m entranced by the plot twists

  • Danny

I’m old enough to remember when Saturday night was the #1 night for CBS – All in the Family, Newhart, Mary Tyler Moore and Carol Burnett. Now all of the networks have given up Saturday night because it doesn’t bring in the youngest viewers. I was young when those shows were on…..we stayed home, watched (no VCR, no DVR) and then went out. Maybe this will start to bring back Saturday night. Love the show, BTW.

I think the show is definitely better than I thought it would be. I just can’t stand the previews for the following week when the creepy, little girl says “one by one” over and over again. It’s just obnoxious.

  • David

I enjoy Harper’s Island. I think the biggest problem with it was they tried to shove too many characters at you at once. Now that we are getting to know these people, its becoming more of a story. I think a lot of people are DVRing this so they can go over the clues.

  • jhk

i love the showw :) !! i really hope we get to see all 13 episodes

I wish the networks followed this model: limited run and no messing around with the schedule. I also wish the networks followed the model of smart tv for adults. Clearly I’m dreaming. It surprised me how much I like Harper’s Island (not usually a fright-flick chick), so I’ll keep my fingers crossed.

  • Lauren

I’m surprised at how much I actually like this show… although it’s hysterical how these people keep dying and no one seems to notice. Like the bridesmaid with the dog that got torched? She doesn’t seem to be missed much!

  • Adam

This show was really cheesy yes, but everyone loves a good mystery, and this brought it. And quite honestly, I don’t think CBS could of put it in a better timeslot. Against a NBC new show, who would of thought Southland would succeed. Yes, it an amazing show, but so was Kings.

Harper’s Island rocks!! Fresh, fun and intriguing. I’ll go wherever they put it.

  • Heather

Please do not cancel this show. I am completely hooked and will be seriously pissed off if I do not find out what happens. I am one of the ones that DVR’s it, but I always watch it the next day. I highly recommend this show to anyone who is a thriller/horror fan.

  • GS

Well, now my hubby and I can watch it when it comes on. We DVR it now and watch it when he’s home with me on Sat b/c he works at night. They just better not cancel it. I’m invested now and want to know who in the heck is doing this. Some very creative causes of death so far.

I love this show… total guilty pleasure. I’m glad the net is putting it on Saturdays instead of pulling it altogether. Perhaps it will breathe some life into the night.

  • Torrence5

Good-bye show. I have watched all three aired episodes to date & enjoy the show. A move to Saturday night, means I will not be watching anymore. Ihave too much to do & wont waste my time recording it to watch later. CBS can write off another viewer & I’ll skip CSI along with it now. CBS SUCKS

I thought the same thing too Lauren…but last week I realized that the show is only supposed to span the five days before the wedding, so no one has appeared to be “missing” yet. They found Kelly (since it’s supposed to look like suicide) and this week it appears they locate the boat with Hunter. My guess is as the body count mounts, that’s when it will finally dawn on people (most likely Abby) that something is not right.
I also hope they have the b**** to kill either the bride or the groom. I really hope no one is safe!

According to the CBS TV schedule-They are showing Criminal Minds at 10 PM ET this Thursday and Harper’s Island on Saturday May 2 at 9 PM ET.

  • luc

this is such a stupid move, summer is coming soon, why not keep it at 10pm on thursdays? rather then ship it to D.O.A Sat at 10!?
Sometimes I think people with half brains could run all these networks…then I am reminded people with less then that are running them…

  • Troy

I’m not horribly upset by this move. I figure most of the viewers of this show are like me (ie, giant losers) who have nothing better to do than sit at home and watch it at 9 on a Saturday (maybe with their parents)!!

  • Sean

This show is a TOTAL guilty pleasure! Sure its a rehash of a lot of slasher stuff gone before but the inventiveness of the “kills” and the anticipation as to who will get it next and how is actually devilishly fun! I mean the shock of the bridesmaid being burned to death was totally a surprise. And don’t tell me you weren’t wondering when the murder would happen last week? If I heard correctly, the 4th episode is when the whole story turns and it goes from slasher flick to true Twin Peaks territory. Hooked until the end!

  • Big D

bye-bye Harper’s Island bye-bye. Maybe this will increase Eleventh Hour’s chance of being renewed.

  • Callie

I’ve been watching this on demand cause I couldn’t figure out when it came on to DVR it. It is a total guilty pleasure, but whatever. I need more fluff in my life. Now I can watch it the next day instead of having to wait a week. Fine by me!

  • Katie

I am addicted to this show and can’t wait to see who the killer is. They had better not cancel this before it reaches the conclusion because I will never ever watch another new show on CBS– ever —

  • anonymous

i love this show everytime i start to like a show they go and cancel it. i hope they keep it.

  • TomNKentucky

I think this is one of the better shows to be aired in many years. It has the suspense, twists and turns that have me waiting to see if I can figure out who the murderer is. Hopefully, the show will air until the conclusion.

  • SMP

The time move sucks! I work EVERY weekend, 12 hour shifts. I’ll have to watch it @ CBS.com, and pray that nobody spills the beans till I can.
