Robert Rodriguez is set to relaunch the Predator franchise for 20th Century Fox, Variety reports. The Sin City director has written a screenplay, called Predators, that revives the alien-hunting character originally played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1987. Rodriguez is also co-directing Machete, a feature based on the hilarious faux-trailer from 2007′s Grindhouse. The indie project stars Danny Trejo as the titular bad-ass and is set to start shooting in Austin in June. Rodriguez’s longtime editor Ethan Maniquis will share helming duties.

Interesting to see who takes Arnold’s spot. Should be good though, a bit darker.

That’s great news. . . I was hoping that the Predator franchise would return. It’s time to start fresh and create something new. I would like to see the predators homeworld, or even a female predator. Let’s hope they don’t make anymore Aliens vs. Predator flicks – ENOUGH ALREADY!!!! Now a Predator vs. Wolverine movie would definately work. . . My money’s on Wolverine.
Robert Rodriguez , Quentin Taratino, Eli Roth, these guys remind me of my friends who genuinely like movies. Every day guys who happen to be big shot movie directors.
“Darker”? Sheesh. I certainly hope not. The original movie is an action classic which manages to be be both scary and funny as hell. ‘Dark’ does not necessarily mean ‘good’ – let’s stop making that the default position for any new genre movie. Besides, Rodriguez has a great sense of humour, so I doubt he’ll be taking that route. Arnold might be coming back to movies in a year or two, so they should hold off on this for a bit…

Even if this is technically better, strong actors, etc, it won’t have the same impact as the original movie-
The best part was finally seeing what it was at the end. They can’t repeat that.
There’s no reason to re-boot. Just do a Predator 3. The Alien VS Predator films were watchable at best. Actually Predator 2 with Danny Glover is a fun action film. There’s only so much you can do with this franchise.

Fine, bring it on unless it’s another sad remake…the original was perfect as is and still gives me chills after all these years. I had such high hopes for Alien vs. Predator….sigh.
ENOUGH WITH THE REBOOTS! Why can’t Hollywood come up with an original idea? Or at least rip off an idea and try to present it as original. Oh wait, that’s all they do now.
Maybe recruit Christian Bale to take over Arnold’s spot.
it will probably star the Rock
i agree cltAndrew. but the remakes/reboots are only going to get worse. especially with the Nighmare on elm street, and Robocop ones in the works.
After the terrible Alien vs Predator garbage, this is the best that Fox can come up with? Another Rothman blunder.
The original Predator is the only Predator. No more useless remakes.
Agreed with Mr Williams. They need to delve into the Predator ecology if they plan on carrying the franchise any further. We’ve seen enough of the Aliens on their own. Why not see the Predator homeworld? And easy on the CG already. Don’t waste so much money on all-star talent Hollywood…
