for all the talk about being current, they just keeping going back in time.

  • charles

this is the week where they start singing two songs each right??

  • Amanda P.

OK, I love the show but the themes are so lame this year. So, we are going to have Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. songs? Am I missing a Rat? Did Joey Bishop have a hit song in the 60’s? I wonder if Danny and Matt will be fighting over “The Candy Man” or “That’s Amore”. Or, maybe they meant “Brat Pack” songs in which case I would love to hear Kris sing “St.Elmo’s Fire”.

disco-geezer to vegas-sleazer…will next week’s mentor be the relevant revenant peter lawford in a seance with the stars? you get the feeling simon and paula et al are intentionally riding the idol trainwreck off the rails to make their grand exits next year?

  • AJ

I guess after Anoop’s Usher impression and Matt’s hilarious attempt at Coldplay, Idol’s decided they are done with contemporary music for the year.

  • sweetsmoke

TAYLOR HICKS on AI next week!?!?
The BEST reason I’ll have to watch this sucky show in 3 years!! Seven Mile Breakdown will tear the roof off the joint! CAN. NOT. WAIT! Here he comes, Simon! LOLOL!
Taylor, you show Adam, Danny and Co. what a real performer looks like!
    WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Ya baby!

  • Shar

Yes. People will finally get a taste of touring Taylor! Seven Mile Breakdown–southern rock, jam band, with hawtness and harp. Yes a real reason to tune into Idol!

  • souljames

Who cares what they sing??? WOOOOOOOOO!! I’ll be watching Wednesday for Taylor Hicks to tear the whole place down! FIRST TIME I WILL WATCH THIS SHOW IN THREE YEARS!!

  • david

    LAME

  • Jason S.

Haha I was reading this article and my mind saw “Season Idol Chump Taylor Hicks”
Freudian slip or what. My mind knows the truth

  • soullover

Love me some Taylor Hicks! Next week should be great! It’s about time they showed him some love and had him back on the show – Season 5 Winner!

  • Sarah Hames

I want to see Adam Lambert sing Judy Garland…

  • sing a song

so…. here’s the thing,Judy Garland was NOT part of the Rat pack…
    Adam -A Frank Sinatra/or Liza M.song..
Matt – A Dean Martin song ..PLEASE
Danny – A Sammy Davis Jr. song -
Allison – Frank Sinatra song -
    Kris – you’re cute – it doesn’t matter waht you sing …

  • sing a song

PS – I am looking forward to seeing Taylor Hicks on the show – next week.
also-I miss Lil and Anoop …already, they have talent – and I wish them well in their future singing careers .

  • u

Taylor should sing 19 or maybe you should instead.

  • Chichi

    Dear Michael Slezak,
Thank you for the warning about Taylor Hicks impending performance on the Idol Stage. During that time I can do something important like watching paint dry.
    Sincerely,
    Someone who can hear.

  • 4watitzwurth

After the lackluster performances of David Archuleta and especially David Cook, I find myself looking forward to Taylor Hicks.

  • 4watitzwurth

Please Kris, do a cover of “Fever”…surely one of the rat pack recorded that at some point.

  • Elizabeth

Does this mean we sit through re-imaginings of Michael Buble’s work? Like a second cousin to the songs?
Crooner Adam or Edgy Adam – who shows up next week?

  • Songs

I’m not watching AI anymore now that Anoop’s gone home. No one else really interests me all that much.

  • nervz

Rat Pack songs and Taylor Hicks return? Thank God Lost is back next week!!

  • Nicole

The rat pack was cmposed of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr., Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop. They sang some classic songs. I’m sure the idols will find other versions of them, but still. It shoudl be an interesting week. lol I do think Matt was just thrown another lifeline though. He has 9 lives for sure. lol

  • Winona

Thanks for letting us know – we didn’t hear Ryan announce it last night and my husband yelled at the TV – I said, “Oh, the bloggers will have it tomorrow morning.” And I love the theme!!! Personally I think John Stevens would’ve been a more proper returning Idol for this theme, but oh well…

  • L*

Glad to see Idol is trying to recapture the youth demo….wait….Taylor Hicks and the Rat Pack Standards…next week is specifically for the over 40-housewives and grannies. Adios.
LMAO at the Taylor Hicks is so good comments. Heard the music, it sucks, and is not appealing to anybody who hasn’t gone through menopause. The definition of musical wallpaper.

  • bimlin

For weeks, I’ve thought the perfect song (and IT moment) for ADAM could be “Feeling Good” (re-arrangement of Nina Simone’s version). Couldn’t see where it’d fit til now (movie night, maybe). Sammy Davis Jr covered it in 1965 so I think it qualifies.

  • noopdawgal

Too bad Anoop won’t be singing for this one…. he would have nailed this. :-(

  • PatK

I qualify for “geezer” in age, but I can’t stand Rat Pack songs. Never could. Big Band would have been better. Remember Kelly C. and “Stuff Like That There?” This year’s themes are pretty bad. But I’ll keep watching because I like the kids and I understand their dreams. Sorry Anoop is gone. Not sorry about Lil.

  • No to Chris Sligh

I wonder if they’ll include My Funny Valentine on the list. Both Frank and Sammy have recorded versions. I’m just unsure if it’s considered a “Rat Pack” standard…

  • RTA

I’ll take ratpack songs over disco or C&W any day of the week. None of the contestants can “fake” having talent when it comes to songs with classic melodies.

  • Peggy

They must be running out of ideas for themes. Although I can’t wait for Taylor Hicks. Although not my personal favorite from that season, I still enjoy hearing him sing.
