Mia Farrow plans 21-day Darfur hunger strike

Determined to keep up awareness for the humanitarian crisis in Darfur, Sudan, Mia Farrow has committed to go on a hunger strike starting on Monday. The 64-year-old actress will consume only water for 21 days (or until her health is put at risk) as a sign of solidarity with the people of the war-torn African region, the Associated Press reports. The star of Rosemary’s Baby and several Woody Allen movies has been one of the most visible critics of the situation in Darfur, which she has visited 11 times.

I never understood hunger-strikes. To bring awareness to kids who don’t have food, someone will voluntarily stop eating. How does that make sense? The person on the strike goes back to eat double after.

Bless Mia Farrow, her heart is in the right place but why does she think she will make a difference… if Clooney went on a hunger strike people might take notice. Or Angelina Jolie – oh wait, she has. Oops.

First and foremost, to lose site that this is happening to human beings and somehow forgive it because its happening in Africa is disgusting. A little girl gets raped in small town America and there is a uproar, thousands of young women get raped in Darfur and we say “that’s Africa”.
Yes Hunger strikes are about publicity and if there was ever a topic that needed more publicity it is Darfur. Did you know that in 2008 the Darfur genocide got only 11 minutes of tv time from ABC,CBS, and NBC? Gov. Rod Blagojevich got 122 minutes.
Everyone says that we need to turn our backs on Africa and take care of ourselves then they wonder why no other countries are willing to help us when we need it (i.e. post 9/11). And by the way, where did Osama Bin Laden set up camp and train Al Qaeda before 9/11? Sudan. The same government that supported him and allowed him to set up shop is committing the genocide in Darfur. And you want us to stop paying attention to Africa? That’s a great idea!

DARFUR – Hundreds of teenager are laying down their AK-47s on news reports that American actress Mia Farrow is starting a 21 day hunger strike to protest the violence in Darfur. “Wow”, said 15 year old Swanzi of Darfur, “to realize that this wealthy caucasian American actress is joining the 160 million Africans in not eating for the three weeks. I’m going to stop this craziness and go rent Rosemary’s Baby.

Is she still going to drink those strange vitamin shakes?

Mia Farrow: Please stop your hunger
strike right away. Depleting your body of food and nourishment only makes you less able to continue your
outstanding work in Darfur. You need
your good health to carry on.

More than one person not eating, we need thousands, we need the to be heard immediately through the world.
Mia, I wrote a song for Darfur, “Never Again” it needs to heard and in the ears of millions.
