NBC’s midseason drama Kings has been exiled to summer. Read the full post.
I can’t believe a show with good writing and solid acting such as Kings is being cancelled and more mind numbing reality shows are getting produced. I’m giving up on Network TV.
“Kings” is a wonderful show. I am sorry that it’s not being publicized more by NBC. No wonder NBC’s ratings are dismal. They don’t promote their good shows. They allow the shows to wither on the vine. The “Kings” story is first rate.
Just another reason why I’m giving up on Network TV. Every time they put a really good show on, they wind up either cancelling it or moving it so far out in the schedule, that it’s completely forgotten about. They must think that all people want is reality shows where they don’t have to think. I give up…
if this show ws on hbo, etc, it would garner good “critical” reviews. but it ain’t. too bad.
I’ll tell y’all what is REALLY, REALLY STUPID…
Premiering any new show at only one time-slot. If you want your show to succeed, and you want to initiate a deep character-driven storyline, then it should be available “on demand” for FREE. (Not for $1 COMCAST, you already rip us off enough for 100+ channels we’ll never watch in our basic package) And while you’re at it, make it available on-line in real-time on the same-day it premieres….
For all the “Water Cooler” talk TV Execs like to hear about, you would think they would make a more coordinated effort to push their new media at us thru all these great new portals simultaneously (Hulu, YouTube, On Demand, etc.).
The Internet ain’t new anymore people!
netties–
That’s all well and good, but my point remains that we have seen shows just like Southland before. In your comments, you listed several shows that SL is currently being compared to. It might be a fine show, but I’d rather see fresh, original programming than watch a recycled ideas an rehashed storylines.
I challenge you to find a show that matches the originality, potential, and production value of Kings. Possibly Lost is the only show that fits the resume, and it is universally recognized as one of the best shows on television. So, rather than take a chance on a show NBC had already sunk millions into, the network instead went with an old show in a new package. Must have taken some guts to flush that amount of money down the drain.
Another network mistake. When will they realize neilson ratings are outdated? Get with the times! before long all network tv will be reality show after reality show
What do you expect from a network that spent all summer promoting “My Own Worst Enemy” and then canned it after only four eps aired? And giving Jay Leno a prime-time show, thus costing them five new series? And they actually wonder why their ratings are so bad?
I was happy to see Kings move to Saturday night. I enjoy the show and it freed up the other night for me to watch my favorite CBS shows. NBC is making a mistake on this one.
The show had no real chance of succeeding on a Sunday Night. I personally Love the show, but would have to DVR it every week because Sunday Nights are usually taken up with church, and then if I get home by 8 oclock, then the Simpsons and FOX takes over. Until The Simpsons, Family Guy etc…are ended, then nothing else can really succeed on a Sunday night. I agree that we don’t need another run of the mill Cop Drama…I mean how many Law & Order type shows do we need?? SVU is enough. Kings had a great storyline with unknown actors, and it even had many Biblical references. It’s a great show, and I’m afraid NBC is going to do to KINGS what CBS did to Jericho, which was another great drama that the networks didn’t give a real chance.
For crying out loud!!! Are you kidding me?!? I can’t remember a show since West Wing ended that I have given a rip about and it was bad enough waiting two weeks to see the latest episode and now they are going to push it to the summer with only a couple of episodes left?!? This is why HBO and Showtime have gotten so popular with their series, The Tudors, Entourage, Weeds, Dexter, etc… forget NBC. For crying out loud!!!
“Kings” was the first network TV series in over two years that I took a chance on. It became “must see TV” for me in the first episode.
Thank God for FX and TNT!
Not fair! I usually don’t watch any network stuff, then I happen to catch Kings and loved it. Guess it’s just too smart for most. Bring it back!
Doesn’t Kings only have 13 episodes for it’s first season?
They couldn’ leave it alone for 13 weeks!?
What are they thinking?
Another station in the dump-dumper!
Kings needs a little work, smoother dialog, but an interesting show. Of course, it’s being canceled because one has to actually think about what’s going on in the plot. Not an easy thing to do with our short attention spans. Would MASH or Gun Smoke or I Love Lucy have lasted? I doubt that they would have found an audience today. Better to have “reality” shows that we all know are true, every last word of them. SURE!
