'Kings': NBC exiles show to summer

Tags:

NBC’s midseason drama Kings has been exiled to summer. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that the low-rated drama, which was recently shifted to Saturday night after failing to find an audience on Sundays, had been pulled from the current schedule altogether. The show, starring Ian McShane, will return on June 13 and complete its run on July 25.

Starting this Saturday, NBC will air reruns of Law & Order: SVU, Southland, and Law & Order.

Damn them! For crying out loud, if you’re not getting good ratings off the thing (I partly blame America. We don’t like intelligent thinking programs anymore) then burn it off. SUMMER isn’t going to be any better. Just let it die uninterrupted while people still remember it!
    I like the show.

Am I the only fan of this show. Reality TV has saturated our airwaves and a quality scripted show is difficult to find. If this show would have gotten the press Southland received, I really think things would be different. Hopefully the show will be gifted with a crown of butterflies and given a reprieve for fall.

I agree, why do they keep doing this to decent shows. It’s really good, and get’s better every week. Just put some ad muscle behind it and put it on a better night….so annoying!

It’s decisions like this that make me angry at myself for continuing to watch broadcast television. Oh well.

I think, Ryan O’Brien, that the problem is, at the rate new shows get canceled, viewers are afraid to invest in a new series. It’s understandable. Most would rather see if it lasts before giving it their time. Nothing is worse than getting involved in storylines that don’t get completed. People won’t watch unless it sticks around, but it can’t stick around without the viewers. It’s kind of a Catch 22.
Airing on Sundays was a bad idea anyway. Kings needs to be on during the week. It’s a great show.

I thought this show was fantastic – a mix of political intrigue, fantasy, and real emotion. If NBC cancels Chuck, I’m done with them

You’re certainly right. They need to let shows last with poor ratings for a while and develop word of mouth. Plus, with four major networks, there will always be a timeslot that comes in last. That will never change.
And I love KINGS. It should be given a weeknight and allowed to generate buzz. Or do some Saturday programming like CBS did back in the day. Walker Txas Ranger spent 9 years as a Saturday show. Obviously it did ok!

Sorry to all who loved this show- i probably would have liked it as well but I knew this would be its eventual fate – Network programming has no backbone anymore – or even a smidgen of patience – If something isn’t an insta-blockbuster-hit they get rid of it ..I won’t even consider any new programming on NBC et al until a show has run a full year…save yourself the heartache and do the same…

I’m completely done with hourlong network dramas with continuing story arcs. They seldom last more than a season and almost never get a chance to wrap up their story lines. The networks have no patience to let their fanbases develop.
ABC has a real promising slate of new shows in pilot development. Too bad I won’t watch any of them because, as The Who says, I “won’t get fooled again.”

I didn’t like the show (watched the first episode, but couldn’t get into it) but I agree with what everyone has to say. Why spend your time watching a new show when they are going to cancel it anyway? Every decent show starts off slow and then gets huge. I got into Life on Mars, cancelled. I am falling in love with Castle and I am sure that will die too. If Lost premiered now, it would have been dead by the 4th episode! I am so sick of reality tv and stupid comedies. I miss shows that make you think and feel.

Hopefully Ian McShane gets a new show…with the respect he deserves!

this sucks. I work saturday nights so I never get to see on tv but I watch all the episodes online. What’s the point in waiting until june. NBC sucks. This is the only show currently watch on NBC…but I’m still pissed at them for cancelling American Dreams and The Black Donnellys! (btw any BD fans notice Tom Guiry [Jimmy] and Michael Stahl-David [Sean]on KINGS…that was great to see.)

So let me get this straight…they have new episodes of a series that at least some people are watching, but they are gonna bump it off the air to air reruns we could watch on FX or TNT if we cared in the first place. Super. Just super.

You have to be kidding – it is the one show we watch on NBC. Unbelieveable. If I like it – they take it off!! Grrr
