The story of Irish Rocky Mickey Ward and the half-brother, Dicky Eklund, a fellow boxer who kicked a drug habit and served jail time before helping him to the world lightweight championship, is finally coming to the big screen. Mark Wahlberg, long attached to the project, will play Ward, while Christian Bale will play Eklund, Variety reports. David O’Russell (Three Kings, I Heart Huckabees) will direct.

I wish Christian Bale would do something light & romantic for a change of pace. I love him (in spite of the past event!), but he makes so many movies (Rescue Dawn, Harsh Times, Terminator, etc) that I have no desire to see. I think my favorite CB movie is Little Women!
Bale and Wahlberg. Sounds like a kick ass movie!

Thought I had heard that this movie was originally going to star Brad Pitt and Edward Norton. Now that would have been casting to get excited about. Mark W. is OK but his monotone voice with no emotional range makes every part he plays the same, whereas Christian is good actor, he is kind of bland speaking too, neither one of these actors has charisma and spark.
Bale and O’Russell – the two most volatile hissy-fit throwers in Hollywood. They’ll probably get on like a house on fire! And if they don’t, Wahlberg can beat both of them up.
I’m actually excited about this project. Bale is always excellent and as for Wahlberg, I personally think Russell has gotten some of the best work out of him (especially in “I Heart Huckabeess).
That’s assuming (as Mathieu pointed out) that Russell and Bale don’t kill each other before the movie is completed.
Any chance of switching their roles? Cause that would rock. Even though I’ll probably see it anyway.
i’m with Adam, this could be kick-ass.
and some nice eye candy for us girlies. :p
Don’t forget how this guy freaks out at his coworkers (search Youtube, bale yell)… I wonder if he would go crazy yelling at Mark Walberg?
Oh. another underdog boxing movie. yippeeeeeee
I’ll see it because of Bale, excellent actor. I don’t care that he had a hissy fit. There are acots out there who do worse, cough Vin D., still got fans. Wahlberg is a better actor with each film, so this could be good.
that was one time dude. and anyone who matters doesn’t care. people get angry sometimes at co-workers who aren’t doing their job correctly. oh, the horror…
I’d say it was a prank but it isn’t April Fool’s Day. How did Christian “I Rant” Bale sign up to work with David “My Movies Suk And I Yell A Lot” Russell? I hope Marky Mark remembers to pack a helmet, I predict major fireworks on that set. My money is on Bale giving Russell a beat down, Clooney style.
You are retarded if you have no desire to see either Terminator, Rescue Dawn (should have been nominated for an Oscar), or Harsh Times. You don’t even know CB if you haven’t seen these movies, even though T4 will be bad ass. American Psycho is cult status in itself, and btw Little Women sucked, and CB was the best part of that. Go watch All the Pretty Animals, and tell me that CB can’t do anything light. GOD, people are so stupid. CB is possibly the greatest actor on earth right now
What happened to Aronofsky directing this?
It will be interesting to see if Bale and O’Russell can control their tempers on the set, given their mutual history of outbursts. I actually did not heart “Huckabees”, but I still think O’Russell has potential as a director. Bale typically never disappoints. We shall see…
