'Prison Break' returns to low ratings on Fox

Categories: Television

It appears the much-ballyhooed return of Prison Break wasn’t as hotly anticipated as Fox had hoped. Despite a hefty amount of promos, the episode was only seen by 3.4 million viewers and earned a meager 1.2 rating among adults 18-49, according to the Hollywood Reporter. That’s down 25 percent from what Dollhouse was previously earning in the time period. Break will end its run on Fox with a two-hour series finale on May 15.

Fox has NEVER had a successful show on Friday nights. Why not just keep Dollhouse there for the next seven years and rake in the profits off of the DVD sales?

It was only to be expected by moving it to Fridays. Like NBC and Kings.

TVaddict: The only successful show FOX had on Friday was The X Files from 93-97, but I would be shocked to have another show reach that kind of success on Friday ever again sure to cable/dvr.

They changed the day that’s why I didn’t watch. Why switch to Friday? Monday was pefectly great!

Typical Fox, they knew Friday was the graveyard slot, why didnt they use that for the repeats? Fox uses enough of them and give PB the support and time slot it always had. Fox just dont care its all ratings, well they should open their eyes and take note from around the world support it has and look after its own.

Well, they buried it on a Friday night, what did FOX expect? The show did much better as a lead in for 24 on Monday nights. I guess since FOX doesn’t want this show anymore they could claim they are not renewing due to poor ratings, except that FOX already decided to not bring the show back in the fall.

Actually I think there was one successful show that started on Friday night and I think it was the X-Files.

I didn’t even see one promo showing Prison Break was on last week. If it weren’t for my DVR, I’d have missed it completely.

Big surprise. Hefty amount of promos? I’ve been waiting for the return of PB and hardly saw any promotion at all. It’s lucky that I even knew it was on Friday night, and I had no idea there would be a repeat on first. Maybe this will give FOX some incentive to renew “Sarah Connor Chronicles” & “Dollhouse”. I think even “House” would experience a serious dip in ratings if they moved it to Fridays.

Low Friday ratings? Funny how that works. What may doom two shows will not effect this one as it is already on its way out the door. Hopefully FOX looks at this as an example of what will happen to whatever they put in a Friday timeslot and give both Sarah Connor Chronicles and Dollhouse a third and second season order, respectively, and put them in better timeslots. Unfortunately, it has been shown FOX=/=logic, but they have a chance to prove everyone wrong.

Prison Break, like 24 and Lost, use a serialized narrative for storytelling. Fans get caught up in the ongoing story as based on the story so far. Fox kills the show at the end of its run and withholds 5 episodes for later. Months later, no one can remember the story. Why is it a surprise no one tuned in? Better to have heavily promoted the end of the series per its original schedule. Such bad decision-making by Fox keeps me thinking I could have a great career in TV distribution.

So..does this mean Dollhouse will return?

  • Katie

If DVR wasn’t set I wouldn’t have even known it was on. Never saw one promo for it in the last week. It is a great show and Fox doesn’t seem to care about getting people to watch it.
