Kathy Griffin, 'Milk,' and 'L Word' win at GLAAD Awards

Comedian Kathy Griffin took home the Vanguard Award at this year’s GLAAD Media Awards, which honor fair, accurate, and inclusive depictions of the gay and lesbian communities in the mainstream media. Other victors at this year’s ceremony at Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre included The L Word, which won a special recognition award; Milk, which nabbed outstanding film in wide release; Desperate Housewives, which was named outstanding comedy series; and Ellen DeGeneres, who received the award for best talk-show episode for "Ellen and Portia’s Wedding Day."

I’m surprised DH won. I love the show and all, but its not known for its realistic depiction of gays. I guess they thought otherwise @ GLAAD.

I love Kathy Griffin. If, however, by fair, accurate and inclusive you mean catty, stereotypical and humorously offensive, then yes she deserved the award.

i’m surprised L word won something from GLAAD considering its portrayal of lesbian life is pure fantasy and stupidity. i’m absolutely thrilled the show is done and that crappy spin-off got dumped.

Kathy Griffin is very funny and I enjoy her very much. However, adding to what another poster said, her portrayal of gays is so stereotypical, it does border on insulting. Her “gays” as she calls them are such cartoonish stereotypes that I do get insulted.

Kathy Griffin was recognized because of her open, outright, baldfaced courting and romancing of gay audiences. That’s NOT stereotypical.

I think its funny that people say Kathy Griffin shows gays in a stereotypical way and then become catty sterotypical gays in their comments. Lates unite gay people and not be divisive.
