Maggie Gyllenhaal has signed on for Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang, a sequel to the 2006 film about a Mary Poppins-like governess played by Emma Thompson, reports Variety. Also joining the cast: Maggie Smith, Rhys Ifans (Notting Hill) and Asa Butterfield (The Boy in the Striped Pajamas). Ralph Fiennes is in discussions for an uncredited cameo. Thompson is also exec producing and writing the screenplay, based the Nurse Matilda books by Christianna Brand. The production, to be helmed by first-time feature director Susanna White (Bleak House), is set to start in the summer.

A sequel to that movie? The first one was awful!
I love it! I love it when smart funny clever people work together on films that are (I’m gonna go there) fun for the whole family.
lol Can’t believe they’re making a sequel out of that god awful movie

Susanna White was an excellent co-director on the “Bleak House” miniseries. Assuming Emma Thompson chose her, she’s got sharp taste.
Love her. Maggie is so hot: http://www.actressscene.com/search/label/Maggie%20Gyllenhaal
I’m a bit concerned that she keeps stepping into roles very recently played by other actresses.

She’s not playing Nanny McPhee. Where do you get that from this article?
And she was a hell of an improvement over Katie Holmes in “The Dark Knight.”
