Al Franken inches closer to victory in Senate contest

Tags:

Comedian-turned-candidate Al Franken may be one step closer to becoming Minnesota’s next senator, the Associated Press reports. A three-judge panel rejected the claims of Franken’s opponent, incumbent Norm Coleman, maintaining that Franken won the most votes in last year’s senatorial contest. "Franken received the highest number of legally cast ballots in the November 4, 2008 general election for United States Senator for the State of Minnesota and is entitled to receive the election certificate," the judges decreed.

Saturday Night Live alum Franken and opponent Coleman have spent the past five months continuing to wage their campaigns in the courts, with Franken holding a narrow lead over the incumbent from the earliest November tallies. Last week, the judges oversaw the counting of 351 absentee ballots that had been tossed out by election officials, after which Franken increased his lead to 312 votes — in a state of nearly 3.2 million registered voters. Coleman has 10 days to file an expected appeal to the state supreme court.

I agree that this has gone on FAR TOO LONG!!!!
Why haven’t the Republican brass smacked Coleman upside the head and told him to quit acting like a whiny sore loser.
The people of Minnesota should be picketing this man’s office, telling him to quit wasting their tax dollars by talking this thing to court.
If this does go to the state or US Supreme court, this guy will be the laughing stock of the century.

I hope this has destroyed the future political life of Coleman. What a whining, petulent, loser desperately doing everything in his power to delay the legitimate installation of a FDemocratic Senator. It’s obviously being done purely for vitriolic politics, and the votes of that state should make it crushingly clear this is not an acceptable thing to do.

    Is this entertainment news?

Actually Coleman was the leader from the earliest counts. It was only after Franken whined that they recounted some votes that had previously been rejected and decalred Franken had more votes. So it’s pretty hypocritical to decry Coleman for whining when the only reason Franken is ahead is that he whined first.

Actually Ben, Franken didn’t cry. The amount Coleman was ahead by was so small it triggered an automatic recount in which Franken prevailed. And as soon as Coleman accepts the inevitable and steps down and stops embarassing Minnesotans, Franken get to work.

The votes weren’t recounted because Franken supposedly “whined”. They were recounted because when an election is that close a recount is required by Minnesota state law.

Through his actions, Coleman proves is not the man for the job, because everyday he is the loser and he is more important than the people he was suppose to represent. Don’t let the door hit you!!

Who leads to begin with does not seem to me to matter as quite much as who leads later on. Well done to the state for having automatic processes to get an accurate vote rather than just taking a random resut at the start.
