Damages actor William Hurt will star in the Ridley Scott-directeduntitled Robin Hood movie as William Marshall, the Earl of Pembroke, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Universal and Imagine film, which is being described as a retelling ofthe origins of the tale’s main characters, will also star Russell Crowe (as Robin Hood), Cate Blanchett (as Maid Marian), and Scott Grimes, Kevin Durand and Alan Doyle as theMerry Men. The project just began production in the U.K.

It’s “CAST” of Robin Hood, not “COAST”
I thought Russell Crowe was the Sheriff of Nottingham, that this was a retelling putting Robin Hood in the negative and the Sheriff in the positive? Or did I miss the change somewhere along the lines?
Crowe will make an awesome Robin Hood.

The name of the movie is NOTTINGHAM and rumor has it that Russell will play both the Sheriff and Robin Hood! Love Russelllllll….. And now with William Hurt in the cast, it’s gotta be a blockbuster
I got really excited about this casting news until I realized that it was William Hurt and not John Hurt.
*Sigh*
Whatever, it’s Robin Hood and I’ll be there. I just hope Russell Crowe loses some weight for this part, no female actress would even make the short list for a big film like this if her weight fluctuated like his.
Including this movie, how many times has Ridley Scott used Russell Crowe now?
*Sigh* As if Kevin Costner hadn’t already ruined Robin Hood for me, now we have to have the one actor I hate even more than Costner (which I didn’t think was possible) in the lead role. Ugh. Can’t stand Crowe!
I love everyone else in the film, though, and I’m a big RH fan in general, so I’ll probably be sucked into it anyway.
Errol Flynn is still the best Robin Hood in my book. And no one will top Alan Rickman as the Sheriff of Nottingham.
I hope Crowe is the sheriff . . .he seems a bit old and pudgy for Robin. I really liked the Robin Hood series that was on BBC the last couple of years and the young cast . . . until they ruined it at the end of Season 2.
I was a fan of Russell Crow in the past.. but he’s gotton a bit tired .. and that awful long hair!! With all the YOUNGER and better looking actors out there … couldn’t he be replaced before the damage is done?
Although Russell Crowe is a fine actor, I guess I just would’ve hoped for them to go a little younger casting-wise.
Hurt and his sneer…he looks alot like Dick Cheney.
