Woody Harrelson mistakes TMZ photographer for zombie from his latest film, altercation ensues

Woody Harrelson’s explanation for an alleged tussle with a TMZ photographer at New York City’s La Guardia Airport Wednesday night is Method acting. "I wrapped a movie called Zombieland, in which I was constantly underassault by zombies, then flew to New York, still very much incharacter," Harrelson said in a statement issued by hispublicist and obtained by CNN.  "With my daughter at the airport I was startled by a paparazzo, who I quite understandably mistook for a zombie." The unnamed TMZ photographer, whose footage has been posted on the tabloid web site, filed a complaint with authorities accusing the actor of damaging his camera and pushing him in the face. No charges have yet been brought. According to Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer’s web site, the film wrapped Wednesday in Georgia. Harrelson’s last day was Monday, April 6, while costars Abigail Breslin, Emma Stone, and Jesse Eisenberg finished the day before, the first-time feature director reported via Twitter. They’d been shooting in various locations since early February. On Feb. 26, the local newspaper The Valdosta Daily Times ran a piece on the tight-lipped production, saying, "Harrelson has reportedly been spotted playingbasketball at Valdosta State University, playing soccer with kids, hanging out in restaurants like Charley O’Corley’s and Flip Flops inRemerton. Reports of Woody Harrelson sightings have been rampant –almost all of these reports have the added commentary that he’s a greatguy, very open and friendly." Photos of set dressings on Fleischer’s site from late March show charred vehicles and a tank.

Harrelson also had an altercation with a TMZ photographer outside a Los Angeles nightclub in 2006. According to CNN, prosecutors declined to press charges against Harrelson in that case, but the photographer, Josh Levine, filed a civil suit last year asking for $2.5 million in damages.

“who I quite understandably mistook for a zombie.”
LOL. I’ve been laughing for like 2 minutes since I read that.

Is that what they call method acting?

TMZ is so annoying, it’s a wonder more people don’t hit them. Seriously though, maybe actors should wear medical bracelets or something that warn people when they are “in character”!

Paparazzo are the scum of the earth. Woody should get a medal for pimp-slapping this low life.

He assaulted me but I am going back for more. He assaulted me and I hope he does it again. He assaulted me but I just can’t stop coming at him. He assaulted me but I have to follow him and keep getting in his face. He assaulted me but I just have to find a way to annoy him until he tries to kill me so I can sue him.

Woody, you’re time is done. Your should be grateful for any attention you get from photographers. That particular was being very polite to you. Your actions were shabby, like you.

I agree with you Mike. I thought that was the best comment ever from a celebrity after a paparazzi incident.
I have seen first hand how these photographers are. When I was working with Colin Farrell one of them came into our office and was going through my desk until our producer caught him and asked what he was doing. Of course he ran and was never caught.
If anyone is interested, I have a website that is trying to spread the word and regulate the paparazzi. I sell fun tees and tanks and I already have one for Woody. It says “Leave Woody Alone, you Zombies!”

Woody did what anyone should do if harassed: he defended himself and his family. He did the right thing.
His quote about zombies will live on!!

Anyone working for TMZ should be put in jail.

I think that being followed around constantly by photographers claiming legitimacy and howling about their rights would be like being slowly pecked to death by chickens. They deserve whatever they get. First prize goes to the most original way to jack slap one of them and not get sued.

Woody Harrelson didn’t have to do that to that photographer! He could have just said a few words, then walked off. Those photographers are doing their job and it wasn’t like he was in his face. Woody shaking and strangling the camera is way beyond him. No, I don’t like the way TMZ does its stories, but the photographer didn’t have to be assaulted by Woody like that. Harrelson should apologize!
