ABC Family just announced its upcoming slate of TV shows at the network’s upfront presentation in New York. Among the shows are:
Make It or Break It, a one-hour scripted drama set in the world of competitive gymnastics, starring Frasier’s Peri Gilpin and Full House’s Candace Cameron Bure. The show will follow a group of teen Olympic hopefuls in training. The pilot was directed by Dawson’s Creek’s Steve Miner and the cast also includes Chelsea Hobbs (The Lords of Dogtown), Ayla Kell (CSI: Miami), Josie Loren (17 Again), and Zachary Burr Abel (The Secret Life of the American Teenager). It premieres on Monday, June 22 at 9 pm.
10 Things I Hate About You, a half-hour high school series helmed by Gil Junger, who also directed the 1999 film of the same name (the film was also notable for providing Heath Ledger’s breakout role). 10 Things stars Lindsey Shaw (Aliens in America), Meaghan Jette Martin (Camp Rock), Ethan Peck (Tennessee), and comedy veteran Larry Miller. It will premiere on Tuesday, July 7 at 8 pm.
Ruby & the Rockits, a half-hour comedy executive produced by Shaun Cassidy. The show traces the post-stardom lives of two teen idol brothers set on making a comeback. The show stars The Partridge Family’s David Cassidy and premieres on Tuesday, July 21 at 8:30 pm.
Three other ABC Family shows will also be returning: The Secret Life of the American Teenager (premiering on Monday, June 22 at 8pm), Lincoln Heights (Tuesday, August 4 at 9 pm.), and Greek (Monday, September 14 at 8 pm.)
Finally, the network also announced that it will be debuting the Lindsay Lohan movie Labor Pains on Sunday, July 19 at 8 pm., the Elle Woods-inspired spin-off flick Legally Blondes on Sunday, August 2 at 8 pm., and the holiday movie Santa Baby 2 starring Jenny McCarthy in December.

All I know is that recently ABC Family has been showing previews of it’s show ROOMATES before movies (in the theatre).
The show is about several single post college people living together in NYC (sound familiar?)
Besides looking very unfunny, 7 of the 10 jokes they showed from ROOMATES were sex jokes. What about that says “family”? (besides how you start one)
Well, there’s 9 more reasons to not watch ABC Family.
I used to look to ABC Family for quality teen shows– basically a replacement CW. But since they canceled Kyle XY, I haven’t seen much on their roster of interest. Sigh.

On the other hand, I’m actually excited about all the new POTENTIAL pilots on CW this year!
I guess I’ve got to represent for the ABC Family fans. Greek has been more than awesome, so glad it’s back on. And while I didn’t watch Secret Life, I caught a marathon before the season finale and had to keep asking myself why it was better than so many other shows I’ve seen this past year. And Lincoln Heights is really good, although sometimes predictable. Gotta love some diversity.
Don’t know what I’ll think about the new stuff – the most appealing are the gymnasts show and 10 Things…
And YES, Roommates isn’t all that. I love Tamera Mowry but had to stop watching.
ABC Family is a channel that does not know what audience likes. I boycot ABC family i only watch one show on their Channel KYLE XY but now thats gone so is ABC FAMILY FROM my list
Basically The Channel’s name is ABC family but Apparently none of their 3 renewed programs can be watched by a whole family. Pretty Pathetic Hope the recession gets to the Channel because as a die hard fan of Matt i loved Kyle XY so i hope The Channel Shuts down.
NONE of these shows are going to be viewed by me..I gave up on the network when they axed Kyle XY.

If you are not watching GREEK, you’re missing one of the best comedies on TV. That show is freaking awesome and it’s good to see ABC Family giving it the love it deserves. I loved Daisies, Eli and Kyle, but GREEK is TOO GOOD to skip out of spite!
Well like so many people I no longier care for ABC nor any of the advertisers that they have now or in the future. They once again axed a great show (Life on Mars) so now they are off my list of watchable tv.and any sponsors too.
ABC cancelled “Kyle XY” for “Roommates”(This is new and creative?)and “Sophie”( a show more suited for ABCFAMILY’s sister station LIFETIME, by the way)?! And, on top of that, “Kyle XY” ends with a major cliffhanger!!! “Kyle XY” brought ABCFamily great ratings when it debuted,renewed for additional seasons-and gets axed? Why no respect for all the loyal fans who watched this series from the beginning? I will miss the show because of its appeal to families,teens,and to sci-fi fans. The only other decent show on the network was “Lincoln Heights,” but even this program has been suffering creatively in its previous season. I hope that ABCFamily reunites the “Kyle XY” cast for a movie in the future to end the series properly;However,this may be too much to wish for because this network is planning to show a direct-to-video movie starring Lindsay Lohan. Seriously.

ABC Family has went for the teen to young adult market and doesn’t care about appealing to anyone else. The last thing I will ever watch on this network was Kyle XY, but since they messed with it creatively, that was tenuous at best.

While I do enjoy the new sitcom Roommates I really miss Kyle XY. That show was too good to cancel. I hope they reconsider its cancellation. And I have to agree that Sophie show looks like something you would expect to see on the Lifetime channel. I get bored just looking at the previews of it. (LOL)
I have no interest anymore in any shows on ABC Family. They have cancelled every good show they had, especially Kyle XY which was the best show they ever had. I turned them off and have never looked back. Instead I am concentrating on helping Kyle XY find a better network to continue the story.
After ABC Family cancelled Kyle XY, the show that launched their network, I can’t bring myself to start watching anymore of their shows. I liked Greek but knowing that they can just pull the plug on a show that has done so much for their network tells me to not put myself out there for their network anymore. After all the shows ABC and ABC Family have cancelled I have a hard time believing anybody will watch their shows in good faith that they will actually see a real conclusion.

I seriously have yet to see a justification article given by the Channel. Did they justify their action oh i mean Stupidity? Kyle XY was critically awesome. The Numbers in viewers were down yes But who is to blame? The Channel no else. If you are going to have a huge gap in between seasons then yes Your show will suffer in ratings. No one watches your channel. No one watches anything on your channel but Kyle XY If we dont watch ur shows how the f are we supposed to know when it comes back. We know its gonna come back after a long time then dont blame the show or the viewers. Spit on ur own face for making decisions like that. ABC Family was known for Kyle XY not any other show. ABC FAMILY IS SO PATHETIC THEY COULD NOT EVEN JUSTIFY KILLING A BRILLANT SHOW BECAUSE JUST LIKE KYLE XY ALL OF THEIR SHOWS WERE SUFFERING.
There really is no excuse for ABC Family to cancel Kyle XY and replace it with these so called comedies.
The premiere episode numbers for Greek were far lower then Kyle’s worst week, and Greek had the benefit of promotion.
We ask that if Kyle is to be replaced with something else, that it at least be something worthy to replace it.

This makes no sense at all. Why bring back shows which had dismal ratings than Kyle XY. It seems like ABCF has something against Kyle XY and they were determined to take it down come what may.

There is no interest for me in ANYTHING ABC does anymore. They have cancelled too many good shows. Kyle XY was a great show, with good writing and acting. I will not invest in another show, to see it just get cancelled. I hope ABC is reading this!
ABC Family purposely killed Kyle XY off. No Season 3 promotion…none. My guess is that there’s a bigger profit margin in buyer cheap and very inferior programming. Kyle’s ratings were still better with NO promotion that most of the rest of their programs that were promoted. If ABCFamily had any decency, which they don’t, they’d let another network have it. This show would be very easy to tailor to any other network. I wouldn’t let my kids watch that network again even if they were in the new demographic. By the way, since my sons don’t fit the new demographic, why are they allowed to call it a family channel?
I don’t understand this. You make a 3rd Au Pair movie. A THIRD! And continuously make crappy Christmas movies when there are amazing classics you could be airing, but you cancel Kyle XY? I just don’t understand.
So how about instead of yet another crappy XMas film, you make a Kyle XY movie to at least tie up the loose ends. You knew you were going to end it this season, ABC Family, yet you didn’t give us any closure. One of the only good family shows out there that actually deal with teenage issues to make it easier to talk to children about, and it gets cancelled for a bunch of new shows? Show your audience some respect, ABC Family.
You all have to keep in mind profitability. Greek’s ratings are lower, but it’s a much cheaper show to produce AND much of that audience attracts the demographic they are looking for. In fact the younger demographic of both shows were comparable. Plus, Kyle’s ratings have been dwindling and dwindling while Greeks have improved over the course of its run.
I’m not by any means happy with the decision, as I thought that Kyle was one of the best family shows on TV. I am, however, realistic in that many great TV shows are cancelled long before they should be. I’m still crying over Wonderfalls.
Perhaps we should be complaining about the viewers who watch that attrocious Secret Life. I’ll never understand how shows like Two and a Half men beat out much better comedies or how the NCIS and CSIs consistently outperform much better dramas. It’s us, not the networks that are causing the problem.
I’m still angry and upset that ABC family cancelled the only desent show they had! Kyle XY! I absolutely adore this show. The best thing on tv for a long time. I gave room mates a shot, I’m sorry but the words boring, dribble, and unintelligent come to mind! I won’t give the channel any of my limited free time, unless they bring back Kyle!

I am actually happy that they cancelled Kyle XY. This way I NEVER have to be subjected to ABC Family again. The only 2 good shows they had on that channel were The Middleman (I miss you, DubDub!) and Kyle XY… Now, I can take them off of my cable box’s FAVORITE Channel lineup and never be horrifyingly subjected to Greek or American Teenager EVER AGAIN!!!
Unlike many on this board, I am excstatic about the shows returns. Love Greek with my whole heart and nothing will replace it. Love Secret Life too though…
