Fox News' Roger Friedman under fire for reviewing 'Wolverine' bootleg

Fox News entertainment columnist Roger Friedman is in hot water after posting a review of a pirated version of 20th Century Fox’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine. After his posting his review online, News Corp., which owns both Fox News and 20th Century Fox, announced that Friedman had been terminated. However, a Fox News spokesperson told Variety that "this is an internal matter that we’re not prepared to discuss at this time," while Friedman is quoted in Variety saying that he had not been terminated. His review is no longer on the Fox News site but can still be found elsewhere on the Web.

This is stupid. Fire for reviewing a bootleg. Seriously!? Anyway, not that I’m planning to watch the pirated copy (I’m waiting for the IMAX screen), but I didn’t even know that there was a bootleg version avaliable on the net until there was this big hollaballoo about “the unfinished version” being online. Fox needs to stop whining so loudly about it. I bet more people searched out a copy to view after the Fox issued it’s statement than before they went to the press to complain. This by far isn’t the first film to hit the net before the release. So why now does the studio yell so loudly. It’s weird.

  • They killed him!

    “Friedman has been terminated.”
So, they sent a robot from the future back in time to kill Friedman? Or did they just borrow Summer Glau to do the job? I wouldn’t put it past Fox, either way…

WOW, I’ve heard of guerilla marketing techniques, but “Terminating” an employee to promote Terminator 4 Salvation (in theaters this May) is a bit X-treme (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, in theaters this May). :)

I would never watch a movie while being in an unfinished version, specially a movie like Wolverine. But I’ll be definetely there when it opens on May 1st. X-Men Origins: Wolverine is my #1 most anticipated movie of this summer.

Polls suggest that the leaked footage actually created buzz that make people want to go see it in the theaters with all the added effects.
SO stop whinning fox or Else I won’t spend 30 dollars to see it in the theaters just in spite. I’ll DL it off the piratebay (which will be off the hook in april from the against them).
I should just download the theater release because you fired somebody for excercising their right to freedom of speech. A reprimand should have been all that was needed. “Don’t review pirated movies or next time you will be fired. This is an image we at fox do not want and it doesn’t show support to our century fox counterpart. With that said you write good articles and look forwards to your future releases” Now thats a boss I would be proud to work for.
But your not that kind of boss. Your a whiny lil baby boss that is pissed when it doesn’t get its way. you need to be spanked by your incestrial mother!

Exactly what polls are you referring to James? If you really believe having a pirated copy leak online I’m concerned for you. Sure they’ll be buzz but to counter that loss of revenue? No chance. We’re talking tens of millions lost.
