Natalie Cole, who is suffering from kidney failure, has been getting offers from fans to give her their kidneys, the Associated Press reports. Cole, 59, the daughter of legendary singer Nat King Cole, appeared on CNN’s Larry King Live on Tuesday, and said that without a kidney she would likely be on dialysis for the remainder of her life. According to the AP, dozens of fans wrote in before the show was even off the air, offering to be tested as possible donors for the singer. Cole said she was diagnosed with Hepatitis C last February and her kidneys failed after treatment.

It would be great if her situation brought to the fore organ donation. If everyone who wrote/called and offered her their kidney would follow thru and sign up on the national list for anyone who is in need that would be awesome!

It is truly sad to read that another person has been diagnosed with both Hepatitis C & kidney failure. As I lost my husband to this deadly combination, I am puzzled as to why there is discussion of a kidney transplant. My husband’s doctors would not put him on a transplant list because Hepatitis C causes liver damage that leads to further complications. Therefore, they did not want to put a healthy kidney in a body with other failing organs. Hopefully, Natalie Cole’s situation is better than this. If not, it would be unfortunate for an organ to be donated merely because of her celebrity when there may be better candidates out there. Peggy
I am a transplant recipent a year ago. When I heard of all the offers Natalie Cole got from just being on Larry King and for being a “singer” I thought that was crazy. I am sorry but I have working the the medical field a long time and not only have I had to go though this my brother my cousins and there are more in my family waiting. Why dont all these people that want to be FAMOUS by giving Natalie Cole one of their kidneys think about getting tested for all the peds. out there and young adults that need a transplant and yet either have to wait due to NO MATCH or $$$. I have seen all sides of this and I think it is sad that so many people jump at the chance to help a famous singer and wont help the family down the street that needs the same thing. I was very blessed because my donor family was not looking for fame or their 24 hours in the spot light. I am a young mother of 2 wonderful young children and a wonderful husband. But there are kids and young adults still waiting!
