Donald Sutherland will lead the CBS drama pilot The Eastmans as the patriarch of a wealthy family of dysfunctional doctors. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he’ll play a distinguished cardiologist. The Dirty Sexy Money star joins a cast that includes Saffron Burrows, Jesse Bradford, and Gaby Hoffmann.

Lindsay Lohan's 'Labor Pains' to go straight to cable
Lindsay Lohan’s comedy Labor Pains will not get a theatrical release, reports Yahoo’s omg! Instead, the movie—in which Lohan plays a secretary who pretends to be pregnant in order to save her job—will debut on ABC Family in July before heading to DVD a month later. The 22-year-old star hasn’t had much luck at the box office since her breakout role in 2004′s Mean Girls, which grossed $86 million. Lohan’s last feature, 2008′s Chapter 27, made just $56,215.
Daytime Emmys could air on The CW
With CBS’ contract up, The CW is in talks with the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences to broadcast this year’s Daytime Emmy Awards, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The older-skewing Daytime Emmys seem an unlikely fit for the youth-oriented CW. CBS and ABC have been alternating as hosts of the awards after NBC dropped out of rotation in 2004.
'Yo Gabba Gabba!' gets third season
The popular Nick Jr. kids’ show Yo Gabba Gabba! has been picked up for a third season. The Hollywood Reporter says the show will also spawn a concert tour, kicking off this May in Australia, and that a feature film adaptation is in development.
Cruise and Diaz may reteam for romantic comedy
Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz may be starring in an untitled romantic comedy from Walk the Line and 3:10 to Yuma director James Mangold, Variety reports. The story centers on a woman with a horrid romantic history who keeps crossing paths with a mysterious guy she met on a blind date. Scott Frank, the writer of Minority Report and Marley & Me, is rewriting the script, which has passed through several writers over the years. Chris Tucker and Eva Mendes were reportedly attached to the project last year. Cruise and Diaz last starred together in Cameron Crowe’s eerie romantic thriller, Vanilla Sky, in 2001. 20th Century Fox will release the film, if/when it gets made. Cruise has been circling several possible next films, including playing the president in 28th Amendment, but has yet to commit to one.
'H.P. Lovecraft' headed for the big screen
An unpublished graphic novel, "The Strange Adventures of H.P. Lovecraft" is already headed for the big screen, Variety reports. Universal Studios has bought the film rights to the Image Comics graphic novel. Imagine Entertainment will produce. Imagine partner Ron Howard may direct. Lovecraft is considered by many to be of the most influential horror writers of the last century. He died in 1937. In the book, created by Mac Carter and Jeff Blitz, a young Lovecraft is the victim of a curse, by which the horrifying stories and characters he creates are unleashed on the world. The book hits stands April 8.
'DWTS': Shawn Johnson 'fan' arrested trying to break onto set
The Los Angeles Police Department arrested Robert Michael O’Ryan, 34, of Yullee, Fla. on Tuesday after he allegedly tried to break onto the set of ABC’s Dancing With The Stars to meet contestant Shawn Johnson, EW has confirmed. Police say security personnel found and detained O’Ryan after he had entered the show’s production lot. Authorities later found illegally possessed firearms in his parked car. O’Ryan was arrested and booked for possession of a firearm and is being held in lieu of $35,000 bail.
Johnson, 17, is considered a favorite to win DWTS this season. She won an Olympic gold medal in gymnastics last summer in Bejing. Johnson’s mother, Teri, had a temporary restraining order issued against O’Ryan on Wednesday
UPDATE: O’Ryan has pleaded not guilty to charges of stalking and carrying loaded firearms. Prosecutors plan to ask that bail be set at $220,000. He faces up to four years in prison if convicted. A trial date of April 27 has been set.
'CSI': Helgenberger files for divorce
Marg Helgenberger, star of the CBS series CSI has filed for divorce from her husband, Alan Rosenberg, the president of the Screen Actors Guild, the Associated Press reports. Helgenberger, 50, filed her petition for divorce in Los Angeles on Tuesday, citing irreconcilable differences. The two actors were married in 1989, and have one son. As president of SAG, Rosenberg, 58, has been engaged in a protracted battle over the last year with Hollywood producers, attempting to negotiate a new SAG labor contract.
'24' cocreator Joel Surnow readying 'Kennedys' miniseries
Joel Surnow, the cocreator of 24, is prepping a miniseries about the Kennedy family and shopping it for distribution, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Surnow is a well-known political conservative, and the pitch for the 10-hour project states that it will "unveil secrets" about one of the country’s most famous liberal dynasties, but producers promise that it will be balanced. Surnow will exec produce the $30 million Canadian-based production, called The Kennedys, with 24‘s Stephen Kronish and others. THR reports that the show could air domestically on a "major U.S. cable network."
Nicole Kidman tapped for next Woody Allen movie
Woody Allen has added Nicole Kidman to the cast of his next film, according to Variety. The untitled movie also features Antonio Banderas, Naomi Watts, Anthony Hopkins, Josh Brolin, and Freida Pinto.
In the meantime, Allen’s Whatever Works, starring Larry David and Evan Rachel Wood, opens June 19.
