Marvel Studios is looking for a few good screenwriters
Marvel Studios, the home of Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk plans to bulk up its ranks — and generate ideas — by hiring a handful of screenwriters to participate in an in-house writers program, an insider confirms to EW. (Deadline Hollywood Daily first reported the story.) The plan is to have scribes (possibly including comic-book writers, who are encouraged to apply) write exclusively for Marvel during the one-year term of the gig and give the studio right of first refusal on any of their past or near-future projects.

Dan Seals, country-music star, dies at 61
Sad news for country music fans: Daniel Wayland Seals, the Texas-born, CMA-award-winning singer who piled up 11 No. 1 songs between 1985 and 1990, passed away yesterday after a battle with mantle cell lymphoma. Initially known to pop fans as the "England Dan" half of England Dan and John Ford Coley, who had a No. 2 single in 1976 with the soft-rocking classic "I’d Really Love to See You Tonight," he went on to forge an impressive solo career in Nashville.
Over 16 studio albums, the gentle, bearded crooner in the ten-gallon hat produced some 20 hits, including "Bop," the duet "Meet Me In Montana" with Marie Osmond," "Everything That Glitters (Is Not Gold)" and "You Still Move Me." Music clearly runs in the family: Older brother Jim was in Seals & Crofts, and several cousins are well-known country singers and songwriters. Seals’ final studio album, Make It Home, was released in 2002. Messages of condolence are being forwarded to his family at dansealsfanpage.com.
Madonna adopting second Malawian child, say officials
According to a source who spoke to the Associated Press, Madonna will be visiting Malawi this weekend to move forward on the adoption of a yet-unidentified child. An official at the African nation’s welfare department said that adoption papers had already been filed. It has been rumored that Madonna wants to bring home a girl, but there currently is no information to confirm that fact.
In addition to her two children from previous relationships, daughter Lourdes, 12, and son Rocco, 8, Madonna adopted 3-year-old Malawian-born son David in 2008. Foreign adoptions are not officially allowed in Malawi; nor are adoptions by single or divorce parents, which has lead some to speculate that her celebrity affords her special treatment. Madonna’s rep declined to comment for this story.
Alleged stalker of David Caruso in custody
In a day unfortunately rife with fan-gone-wrong stories, the Associated Press reports this afternoon that an Austrian woman accused of stalking and threatening to kill CSI: Miami actor David Caruso is in custody in Vienna, after being arrested in Mexico several weeks ago on immigration charges and deported back to her homeland. If convicted, she could spend up to three years behind bars.
The alleged stalker, identified only as a female in her early 40s, reportedly sent more than 100 letters to the star of the CBS crime show, then sent death threats when he refused to give her an autograph. A court-appointed psychiatrist subesquently testified that the suspect has a "profound personality disorder." A trial date had not yet been set.

Clothing designer Kenley Collins, best known for her retro pin-up girl style and contentious behavior as a finalist on season 5 of Project Runway, spoke Wednesday after a hearing in Brooklyn, addressing assault charges filed against her by her former fiancé (the Associated Press reports that the charges were reduced to a misdemeanor).
Collins, who was arrested March 17 following the incident, admits to "gently" tossing her cat on the bed during an argument; ex Zak Penley, an artist and musician, told authorities that it was done with considerably more force. He also alleged that the initial toss was followed by a laptop, three apples, and some water. No word on the current state of the flying feline.
