WWE, MGM developing 'Missing In Action' for home video
MGM and World Wrestling Entertainment will co-produce an updated Missing In Action flick primarily for home video. The new film will reflect modern military realities and will be set during the current Iraq War, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Jeremy Passmore and Andre Fabrizio will script the updated version. In the original 1984 Missing In Action, Chuck Norris starred as Col. James Braddock, a POW of the Viet Cong who escapes Southeast Asa and heads back to liberate other U.S. captives.
Dwayne Johnson voicing bull in 'Holy Cow'
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson will voice a "macho Texas steer" in the upcoming animated feature Holy Cow, about a bull who "decides to seek refuge in India," according to Variety. Johnson’s production company, White Buffalo Media, is partnering with Prana Animation Studio to develop the film.
'Mad Max' to return as 3-D anime feature film, sans Mel Gibson
George Miller, the writer-director of the three Mad Max films, has resurrected the idea of a fourth Max, which was set to shoot in 2003 until financing collapsed in the wake of the first Iraq War. MTV Movies Blog reports that for the 3-D anime release, Miller isn’t looking simply to mimic Japanese-style animation but rather to adapt it for Western audiences. "Anime is ripe for an adjustment or sea change," said Miller. "It’s coming in games and I believe it’s the same in anime." Miller will not be using Mel Gibson, the original Max, in either the film or its accompanying adventure videogame. "We’ll probably go a different route," he told MTV News.
'Marmaduke' coming to the big screen
Director Tom Dey (Failure to Launch) is on board to direct Fox’s upcoming film adaptation of Marmaduke, the classic comic strip about a Great Dane. It’s not clear yet if the film will be animated, live action, or a combination, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Amy Winehouse charged with assault
The AP is reporting that a London police spokesman says that Amy Winehouse has been charged with assault after after an alleged incident involving a fan at a September ball in the city last year. The fan has been quoted in tabloids saying that she’d been hit in the eye after asking to take Winehouse’s picture. The singer turned herself in at a police station yesterday, where she was charged and released. She’s due in court March 17.
Mark Wahlberg to star in 'Prisoners'
Variety reports that Mark Wahlberg has signed on to Prisoners a thriller about a Boston man who hunts down the people who kidnapped his daughter and her friend, written by first-time screenwriter Aaron Guzikowski. Wahlberg’s agency Endeavor is now seeking a director.
Former Monkee Peter Tork treated for rare cancer
Former Monkee Peter Tork announced on his website this week that he has been diagnosed with adenoid cystic carcinoma, a rare form of cancer. According to Tork’s statement, his prognosis is "good," and his spokeswoman told the BBC that his surgery Wednesday had gone well.
A&E greenlights tattoo reality show
Former Inked star Thomas Pendleton will star in Tattoo Highway, a new tattoo-based reality show for A&E. According to Variety, the series will follow the body art specialist and his wife, Monica, as they travel in a mobile tattoo parlor to consult with customers around the U.S. Juma Entertainment will produce 13 episodes of the half-hour series.
'American Idol': Kanye West and Kelly Clarkson to perform
Here’s some wild news to top off a night of wild card picks on American Idol: Fox announced that the Kanye West, together with a fellow Grammy winner Kelly Clarkson, will perform at the live results show March 11. West will sing "Heartless" and Clarkson will perform her single "My Life Would Suck Without Out" before the Top 13 picks find out who will stay and who will go.
