Variety reports that Paramount Pictures is planning a sequel to the May 8 reboot of its Star Trek franchise to be produced by J.J. Abrams, who directed and produced the latest installment, along with his colleague Bryan Burk from Bad Robot. Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman, and Damon Lindelof have reportedly been tapped to write the screenplay, though prospective storylines remain a mystery.
Talk about it on PopWatch:

That means Paramount has seen the final cut of the film, and REALLY like what they saw.

Now if we can only get a weekly series back on tv.
No! No weekly series!
They ran those into the ground in the 90s. No more Star Trek on TV for at least 5 years.
The previews look awesome! I just hope they don’t trade special effects for heart and story, which is what made Trek great in the first place.

Hint, it is a sequel to the movie, not a new tv show (although I concur with your comment on a TV Star Trek). Looking forward to this movie.
“Pushing Daisies’” creator and “Heroes” savior Bryan Fuller wants to do a new “Star Trek” series. If he can turn “Heroes” around, I bet he gets his chance. And based on everything else the guy has done, he deserves a chance. … And I’m REALLY looking forward to see what JJ has done.
This is my really not shocked face.
Engage!
KHAAAAAN!!!!!!
Now if only they would make a sequel to the fablulous Turkish Star Trek my world would be complete
I side with those who don’t want a new Trek series. There was simply too much and the last series was so divisive to the fanbase that the ripples are still being felt. Let the movies generate new interest in the franchise first – it took 8 years between Star Trek The Motion Picture and the launch of TNG. Fuller should concentrate on creating more great quirky shows like Wonderfalls and Pushing Daisies, or concentrate on reviving Heroes.
Bring back T’Pol
Wow, Paramont doesn’t even want to bother waiting until they see opening weekend results from ST-11 before starting ST-12.
Focus, people! ‘Sequel to the movie’, not ‘new series’. In general, I like the idea of at least one more movie. But let’s not forget, Paramount is the same bunch that has been peeling away parts of Gene’s basic premise for years (and two TV series) claiming they knew better than he did. I think THEY need to work on regaining the fans’ trust more than Star Trek needs to.
But that’s just me.
