Director David Cronenberg told MTV.com, and EW has confirmed, that he is planning a sequel to his 2007 film Eastern Promises. "We are going to have a meeting very soon between me, [original screenwriter]Steve Knight and [original producer] Paul Webster to discuss what the scriptwould be," Cronenberg told the site. The story would explore the consequences of the revelation at the end of Eastern Promises that Viggo Mortensen’s character, Nikolai, is a British intelligence officer working deep undercover within the Russian mob in London. EW has learned Mortensen, who won an Oscar nomination for the role, is waiting to see a script before he’ll sign onto the project. If it goes forward, the new film would be Cronenberg’s first sequel. "I thought we had unfinished business with those characters," he said. (Additional reporting by Nicole Sperling)

I AM SO HAPPY!!!! I loved Eastern Promises- and ya I think this will be great, Viggo did such a great job!! So did Vincent Cassel- he was hilarious- hopefully he’ll be in the Sequal as well.
Might have to pen a sequel to this one now too:

They should call it “Western Violations.”
You can mail me my check later.
I knew it! Something told me that when the credits rolled at the end of Eastern Promises that this shouldn’t be the end. Hopefully Cronenberg can convince Viggo, because they have already made two great movies.
YES!! ABout time.. This movie deserves another sequel more than any other movie I’ve ever seen…. I’ll be there opening weekend!
That is great news! I can’t wait! That will be a h3ll of a sequel.
Eastern Promises gave us one of Viggo’s most indelible film roles, and I truly hope the sequel’s script is as intensely brilliant as the first one, so that Viggo will sign up.
The movie was not for the faint hearted, but it sure left a profound impression on the viewers. This is great news. Maybe Viggo will FINALLY win that Oscar he richly deserves.
Loved Eastern Promises!! can’t wait for the sequel
That was one of the best movies and should have been nom’d for SOMETHING; esp. the supporting actor part…I love Viggo and this sounds really good.
Sorry but the movie was awful. It’s not the actors’ faults, it was just a lousy script. Perhaps other stories, that actually are good should be considered.
I did not think I would enjoy it but I adored Eastern Promises. It was hard to watch but I loved the subtle story and the acting of Viggo, Naomi and Vincent. I hope the script for the sequel is up to par.
Shoot… I should have known better than to read this article before watching the movie first!
Yeah, but will there be a sauna scene?
