People really need to learn the process before they start commenting. This isn't news because the movie hasn't even been given a preliminary rating yet. This is part of the process every movie goes through. It will be officially submitted and probably get an R. If it doesn't, changes will be made to get an R or it will be released with an NC-17. What will be interesting is finding out which scenes they object to. If it turns out to be gay-oriented sex scenes there will be quite an outcry that would likely sound the death knoll for the current ratings system.

The MPAA is stupid enough to hand out PG13 ratings to films that really should have earned an R rating. I bet the director and/or studio just resubmits the exact same film later and gets an R anyway. It won't be the first time directors/studios have pulled the wool over the MPAA's eyes. That's fine. I won't be in attendance. I let a friend talk me into seeing the Borat movie with them and never again will that happen. I'm not easily impressed by outlandish filth.

I recommend the documentary "This film is not yet rated" for anyone who wants to understand the movie rating system. Some aspects are as scary as the exorcist.

I'm sure there will be an unrated DVD version, so we'll eventually get to see what the ratings board deemed too naughty for the delicate innocence of 16 year-olds' minds...

I hope they don't have to trim too much; I want to see it all its vulgar hilarity.

I think I might be the only person who saw the shortened headline of "Bruno: Headed for an NC-17?" and thought it could be a DWTS-themed post about Bruno Tonioli, whose language contains more innuendo than you can shake a "throbbing red hot poker" at. Sorry to intrude my DWTS love into your Sacha Baron Cohen discussion!
Some day I'll have to see Borat, and I do hope that the sexuality of SBC's character in this movie didn't affect the rating.

I don't get the people who are on the hate-Borat bandwagon. Sure, I can understandt how the humor (and anti-semitism) might not be everyone's cup of tea, but no one can deny or diminish the biting, unflinching social commentary of the film; especially in regards to the sexism, racism, elitism, ethnocentrism, homophobia, and yes even anti-semitism that goes on without our knowledge or objection in our own backyards. I am an avid fan of Da Ali G Show and Borat, and am eagerly awaiting the Bruno venture, regardless of rating. And why are we so hung up on sex (in a movie explicitly intended for adults no less, who more likely than not have engaged in the act themselves) but merely shrug of violence in all its increasingly explicit and gratuitous permeatations?
