Katherine Heigl, the Grey’s Anatomy star known for speaking her mind, is happy to stick with the show as long as they will have her. At a party yesterday celebrating Grey’s 100th episode, Heigl said she did not know whether her character, Dr. Izzie Stevens, who is battling cancer, was going to be killed off at the end of this season. According to an AP report, the actress said, "I was assuming that at one point and I got a lot of shruggedshoulders and shakes of the head, so I don’t know if that’s a yes or ano. No one will tell me and I don’t know how this is going to go. Idon’t know if I live or die. I don’t know how Izzie fares." If Izzie does kick cancer, Heigl said she’d gladly remain on Grey’s — "I’m there," she told the AP — and called the set "one of my favorite places to be." She also said that she had no problem juggling a television and movie career. "I’m more than happy to make that compromise. As my agent likes to say, ‘High-class problems.’ I don’t know if I want to continue for five years working 12 months ayear, but I can take at least another year or two." Perhaps this is the beginning of a kinder, gentler Heigl?

lol, you go girl ! In this time and economy, A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush…
Now go eat your previous (“not Emmy-material”) words and start being more humble !!! ;o)
I hope she stays. She is the best and the hottest:

I hope she stays, although am suspect that she’s saying this because she realized that two movies do not a movie star make and now she’s backpedaling to make up for all the whining and b*tching she did all season. Perhaps her agent pulled her aside and told her to stop biting the hand that feeds her. Izzie is a fantastic character – and I’d like to see her stay (and I’d like to see T.R. Knight stay if the writers can actually give him some screen time). Here’s a hint – get rid of the new iterns. They suck. If they stopped wasting screen time on them, George might actually have a storyline. Bring the focus back to the original interns and Grey’s may fully recapture its days of glory (these last 3 episodes have certainly been of Season 1 quality).
I’m honestly quite suprized there isn’t more excitement for her departure. Hopefully the producers have made their minds up and will throw Heigl to the curb. Besides she smokes and that is so unsexy! Get someone annoying like Olivia Wilde to come in.
If Izzie leaves, i will no longer watch Grey’s Anatomy. When i heard that she might ‘die’ i knew that this was the end of my Grey’s days. Izzie’s character lends a ‘softness’ to the show that is much needed. We’ve got characters with alternate life styles (no prob), characters clueless to life despite their education/intelligence (good; we all fumble) and generally some effed up ‘doctors’ as well (a cast of characters is needed on any show to keep all all types of audiences). That said, dumping Izzie is a mistake. Her character is a much needed ‘balance’ on the show. She may have angered the makers of Grey’s by her comments about her not doing any Emmy material, but c’mon folks. Grey’s isn’t Emmy material. It’s a soap opera that is meant to titillate the audience with its ‘racy’ story line (ever see a show without sex?) and the personal ‘growth’ of its characters during med school/residency. Gosh….if my medical training was like that, I’d never had made it in health care.
Maybe she wants to stay because (GASP!) she now has actual material to work with! The past two years has been the thing with George, Izzie the broken-down resident, and then Ghost sex with Denny. Now she’s actually getting a good, meaty storyline. That being said, I still hope she dies- not because I hate Izzie or KH, but because I think it would be a really interesting development for the show.
I hope she stays.
Maybe she just realized her movie “career” has been predicated on Judd Apatow and Seth Rogan….Blanchet, Winslet, and Kidman she is not!
Heigl has never said she wanted to quit the show. She decided not to enter the Emmy’s becuase she felt her material was not strong enough (it wasn’t lets be honest) and ever since she has been labelled ungrateful. It is ridiculous. You only have to see her interviews, or whatever her with fans and people to see how genuine and humble she is. I hope she stays and managed to mix her film career with Grey’s because if she does not Grey’s will really suffer as a result. She is a wonderful actress and brings a lot to the show.
Wow..ALL The GA actors should stop being so nice, and grateful and go the Heigl way. Bad mouth the writers publicly, pull you name from Emmy consideration blaming everyone on GA but yourself and complain about your wages. Then get rewarded with a HUGE ongoing storyline. What’s the matter with the rest of this cast anyway? Don’t they know the only way to REALLY get ahead is step on everyone who’s every did you a favor? C’mon GA cast, do like Heigl and bite the hand that feeds you-look how far she’s getting in doing so. Nice message Hollywood.
I hope she stays because she brings a lot to the show. I don’t think it was ever a money issue, it is clear she wants to pursue movies but also enjoys her work on Grey’s. You can’t blame her for being frustrated given some of her storylines. If she is having to give up movie projects where she is the lead and the focus is on her because of her Grey’s commitments, then she must feel pretty disheartened if then she ends up with not a lot to do or really poor stories. Katherine is a brilliant actress (along with Chandra the best on the show) and if she has the material she will deliver TV gold.
With due respect Karen, Heigl has said a thousand times how much of an opportunity Grey’s has been and how much it has done for her. I just dont get why if someone wants to do other things that makes them ungrateful. Next time you move jobs – will people call you ungrateful to your old employers? That is a crazy notion. She felt her material wasnt good enough for Emmy nomination. She was right, it wasn’t. That is the extent of her complaints..nothing else EVER.
Also remember most of the other Grey’s stars will never have a movie career. They simply dont have star quality, or are too old or sad to say it not…attractive enough for leading material. Harsh but true. Noone in Hollywood makes it as a leading lady in their late 30s early 40′s.
Hope she stays….Grey’s will really suffer without her portrayal of Izzie.
I hope she submits Izzie’s death scene for the Emmy this year.
Sounds like she’s worried her meal ticket is drying up.
