With CBS’ contract up, The CW is in talks with the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences to broadcast this year’s Daytime Emmy Awards, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The older-skewing Daytime Emmys seem an unlikely fit for the youth-oriented CW. CBS and ABC have been alternating as hosts of the awards after NBC dropped out of rotation in 2004.

daytime tv has been in trouble ratings wise for a while now. they need some new blood. i think the daytime emmy’s on the CW present an excellent opportunity to bring in new fans, if promotion and the telecast are done right.
the real travesty is that the awards show is a full 3 months after the balloting will be finished. giving out awards in late august 2009 for 2008 makes little to no sense. i mean, in most cases, characters will be on to their second pregnancy, second divorce or second shooting since the nominated scenes took place.
