United States of Tara‘s executive producer Alexa Junge is leaving the Showtime series, which was just renewed for a second season, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Junge (Friends) ran the day-to-day operations of the critically acclaimed Tara, which was created by Oscar winner Diablo Cody and chronicles the family life of a woman with Dissociative Identity Disorder (Toni Collette). Jennifer, in the show, Tara suffers from Multiple Personality Disorder or Dissociative Identity Disorder. I belive schizophrenia is something totally different.
Yes, schizophrenia is a completely different disorder than Dissociative Identity Disorder. Wonder if Alexa Junge got tired of being in Diablo Cody’s shadow? This isn’t exactly the time to quit a job.
This is bad news. This show got its legs as the series went on due to the outstanding cast feeling more confortable in their characters. A change like this could throw off everything and sink the momentum it has builtup. It could ruin the program.
Yes, Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID)is what Tara has, not schizophrenia.
Thank you Bill for pointing that out. For years DID has been assumed to be synonymous with schizophrenia and it is not. DID is it’s own disorder. I really wish the writers would do proper research before posting things like this.
Thanks, Michelle. As an aspiring novelist, I only know this because of some research I’m currently doing for my 2nd book. I knew it by the old term, Multiple Personality Disorder. It’s still such a cliche to refer to it as schizophrenia.
Back to the actual item. I certainly hope things are better in Hollywood than they are here in Texas. I’ve been unemployed for nearly 6 months. Quitting a job is definitely gutsy!
I think getting a new showrunner can definitely help iron out the kinks in this show. Very lovable cast, good premise, but never quite hits home. Can’t wait to see how the show will change!
What channel is this show on? Does anyone actually have Showtime? Cablevision claims they will break both my legs if I ever call them again, but none of my good friends have showtime so I am in quite a bind, and it’s not getting any better. I’m losing sleep, I’ve lost my jobs and taken up the hard stuff again. You gotta help me Miles, you gotta!!!
i think this is a brilliant example of contemporary drama/dramedy. hits home for me every time. excellent cast, great storylines; i have faith in the direction of the show. great work, need more of it.
im in love of this show already. brilliant script, so much heart in every one of them. toni is amazing.
I never understand why these showrunners “quit.” If they even quit.
I heard about this show and saw the pilot on Netflix, but my partner was out of work for three months and we’d given up our cable subscription so I didn’t get to see the rest of the series until this week when we got service back (yay for re-employment).
I’ve always loved John Corbett, have been eternally awed by Toni Collette (who is amazing as Tara), but for me the homerun has been Kier Gilchrist. The scene with him and Andrew Lawrence in episode 9 was so reminiscent of my own teenage life that I found my self holding my breath and tearing up as I waited the 3-4 seconds to see how Jason would respond to Marshall’s overture. When he responded the way he did, I literally cheered. Thankfully I was alone and nobody saw me being such a ‘big girl’s blouse’.
I can’t wait for next season already.
