I love Scarlett and she’s a great actress, but she doesn’t give off that “exotic foreigner” vibe I think you need for Natasha. Plus I’ve never seen her do any of the physical action work a good Black Widow would need.
the ONLY time i could be disappointed with a film casting Scarlett, i suppose, would be when I was previously teased with the casting of Emily Blunt. weird.
Not sure how I feel about this. She’s not the best actress (Emily would’ve been almost perfect). Isn’t Black Widow more of a Capt. America/Avengers character, anyways? Also, I agree with John, I’ve never seen ScarJo get too physical. Let’s hope she’s working with that trainer as we speak….
PLEASE MS. Johansson,
Do NOT try and talk in English with a Russian accent! It sounds fake and false. Just talk in Amercian English.
If they had wanted someone to speak English with a Russian accent, they would have cast such a person.
Most actors and actresses cannot talk with an accent when required to do so. Meryl Streep is, (of course), the exeption to the rule.
To Shaun: The Marvel comics’ Black Widow originally appeared (as a brunette) in Iron Man back in the Tales of Suspense days. She was a Russian spy, and later she seduced Hawkeye who eventually switched sides and became an Avenger. I believe she also fought with Daredevil then Spider-man before joining SHIELD. I don’t recall her ever facing Captain America.
This is the first time since the announcement of Iron Man II that I’ve been disappointed. Even when they replaced Terrence Howard, I could accept it because they replaced him with a top notch actor.
This just feels like a huge downgrade from Emily Blunt. Johannson just doesn’t fit.
Once again, the Crazy Internet People (thank you, Lauren Graham) are so limited in their thinking that they’ve already made up their minds about how bad someone’s performance in going to be. You’d think such knee-jerk reactions would diminish after the internet chatter-babble from those who couldn’t picture Heath Ledger as The Joker. Actors actually CAN stretch beyond the limits of your imagination, you know. Thank goodness none of you are casting directors.
Well Emily Blunt stepped aside so what else could they do? I agree they could have cast a better actress. The only reason Scarlett is even acting is for what she looks like. I have yet to see her in a movie and like her performance. I don’t think it will be a big deal. Robert is great as Iron Man and one bad casting choice shouldn’t tank the picture. They only people who pay attention to Scarlett is the men’s magazines. People shouldn’t worry because Scarlett is all looks and no talent and she’s forgettable in everything she’s in. I’m looking forward to it. I think it will still be good.
Sorry, but this is horrible casting. I don’t even want to think about Scarlett trying out her Russian accent that she will try and learn from Boris and Natasha from “Bullwinkle and Rocky”. She is being hired for T&A, that’s all. I’ve seen her acting in many other movies and she is about as talented as Ben Affleck. Famke Janssen or Emily Blunt would have been miles better.
So is Gwyneth Paltrow not in this movie? I’m not a huge fan, but I thought she had pretty great chemistry with Robert Downey Jr.
Of all the “European” actresses to choose from, they went with an American actress? And a C actress at that? What happened to Don Cheadle?
Ah. So this is her project after Shoe City:

It should’ve been Famke Janssen
There are now offically too many characters in this movie. Has no one learned the hero to villain ratio as it pertains to quality of film sequels? (see: Spiderman 3 and Batman & Robin)
I love Scarlett. She is so hot: http://www.actressscene.com/search/label/Scarlett%20Johansson
Yeah, I agree with many. Scarlett Johanson, no way. But I don’t agree that Famke Janssen would be any better. She’s alreay been a super hero, Jean Grey, hello!!! She can’t play two or we’ll have a spoof on our hands. Rena Russo or Julian Moore or damn, Kimberly Williams. Oh hell, somebody other than either Scralett or Famke.
Why not Milla Jovovich. I think she would make a great Black Widow.
Ahhhh, you’re all so limited…and so comically predictable.
Why the hell is everyone hating on Scarlett? She’s a good actress and all of you are just rude tarts with a broom stuck up your asses. I prefer Scarlett, because she brings excitement unlike emily-whats-her-face!!! she’s so boring and her movies are not worth to going to the theater to watch!
I agree!!! I love Scarlett and I love the casting. Good thing the emily girl dropped out cause if she didn’t the whole movie wouldn’t be as good. I’d never seen any of that emily girl’s movies and is going to stay that way……besides…..Iron Man suits Scarlett more. I could already tell that this is going to be a Great Movie! Can’t wait to see it…!
Hopefully she took some acting classes for this movie….and have a good stunt double to do ALL her stunts.
