D.L. Hughley’s comedy show on CNN, D.L. Hughley Breaks the News, is ending as the comedian assumes new responsibilities for the cable channel, CNN announced on Thursday. In a statement, the network said, "D.L. approached CNN about being permanently based in Los Angeles, where hisfamily lives. To accommodate this, we agreed upon a new role where he will be acontributor for the network based in Los Angeles. We are eager to continue ourrelationship with D.L., who is a tremendous talent and a valued colleague." No finale date has been set, but the show, which debuted last fall, will continue airing through this month.

It just didn’t work from the first night. I’m glad both sides are cutting their losses. I doubt we’ll see him on CNN for long after his show ends. I remember they brought Walter Cronkite on with great fanfare YEARS ago and said he would be a contributor-at-large or some such nonsense, but he didn’t last for long.
This was as big a disaster as when FoxNews tried to do a version of The Daily Show. Come on, TV outlets! If you’re going to truly venture outside your comfort zone, bring in people who can truly follow through with something authentically outside the comfort zone. D.L. Hughley was not the guy for this show! If you really wanted to do it right, you should’ve shelled out the dollars for Chris Rock.

Hughley would have fared better on MSNBC. It was obvious from the onset that the show didn’t fit. With MSNBC ratings on the rise along with liberal commentary, Hughley “MIGHT” have stood a chance. No one at CNN has comedic flare, whereas Olbermann and Maddow both have the ability to get laughs. Hughley’s comedy can be funny and relevant, but his obvious dogmatic ideals would have been better suited at an unapologetically liberal network like MSNBC.

I liked the show. I thought Hughley was original and likeable. Too bad. I hope it works out for him. It was a good premise.

Hmmm, who is D. L. Hughley? And CNN, are they still on the air? I think they used to be the first for news, now they’re just last period. So who cares.

I love DL and he can be really funny–unfortunately, not on this show. He always seemed very uncomfortable. I agree that MSNBC would be a better fit for him.

It never ceases to amaze me how so-called entertainers (and faux news journalists) are allowed to compare some people to Nazis (which in effect compares them with racial and religious zealot killers), and are not only allowed to get away with it but are found to be humorous. Hughley compares the RNC to Nazi Germany and not one whit of notice from the media. I dare guess that if someone with a national platform compared Hughley to a boot-cleaning slave or another example of black ignorance that person would be terminated, ridiculed, held to scorn and the likes of Al Sharpton would lead the parade. CNN gave up being a news organization when it promoted Larry King as an interviewer and not the celebrity softball tosser that he has been since his days in Miami radio. Why is it that when a liberal says something insulting the media takes no notice, but when anyone else makes a comment or a “joke”, it’s a social injustice? I think the answer is obvious.

His interview with RNC head Michael Steele was very interesting AND it made news as Steele later apologized to Rush Limbaugh for comments he made to Hughley. Nice job on that one, D.L.!

I love DL Hughley and will hate to see him leave the cable. Not much else on CNN for an African American to watch. Most of the cable shows have gone “White.” No more Cosby show, Fresh Price, Good times. All that left are crude off color shows dumbed down to the level of Jerry Springer. White America, you are driving the country in the wrong direction. At least Dl had the sense to speak out unlike the mealy mouth Pablum drivling cable anchor that should have seen this financial mess coming just as they allowed 911 and the Iraq war to happen by not calling Bush out!

No mention of his ridiculous “the RNC literally looked like Nazi Germany” comment? In a better world, that would have gotten him fired immediately.

“We are eager to continue our relationship with D.L., who is a tremendous talent and a valued colleague.” Sure, anyone who calls Republicans a bunch of Nazis is sure to be welcomed at CNN. CNN can go to hell.

So Hughley is a victim of the Obamaconomy…is that what you’re trying to say EW?

I wouldn’t watch D.L. Hughley Breaks the News because of all the negative publicity and comments, but I decided to sit down and watch the episode that aired on February 28, 2009. I have to say that I really enjoyed it. If the earlier shows were awkward I think D.L. Hughley finally found his stride which makes it unfortunate that his show is ending now. I hope another network such as MSNBC will pick it up. I will definitely watch it on a regular basis if it continues to be as good as last week’s show.

DL Hughley was only brought in by CNN to cater to the ignorant masses who elected the Obamination, Marxist mad man to the Presidency. He is the black equivalent to the braying jackass of Wolf Blitzer! He should have never been put on the air!

J.S. You may not like your President but guess what deal with four the next four years, I had to for the last 8. May your next four years be your best :)

Too bad. I didn’t like this show at first but I thought it was getting pretty good.
