'Surprise' Bob Dylan album coming in April

Categories: Music

Bob Dylan will release a new studio album in late April, Rolling Stone reports. The magazine quotes an anonymous insider who says the 10-song set’s arrival "came as a surprise" to those around the folk-rock legend. The currently untitled album reportedly centers on "raw-country lovesongs, sly wordplay and the wounded state of the nation." Dylan’s most recent studio effort was 2006’s Modern Times; last year, he released the outtakes compilation Tell Tale Signs.

    Irrelevant.

Never fully understood his modern day appeal. Old Dylan stuff = great. New Dylan stuff = warbled non-sensical. I can’t make out what he is singing half the time!

Uh, notahugefan, I believe Bob Dylan’s recent trio (Time Out of Mind, Love and Theft and Modern Times) is generally regarded as some of his finest work. I am currently listening to Tell Tale Signs and it is amazing. Nobody makes music like he does anymore.

    Idiot Wind
Nothing Dylan does could ever be thought as wrong
Always looking forward to any sound of his songs
    You’re an Idiot babe
It’s a wonder that you’ve been around for this long

I miss you Uncle David, say “hi” to Dylan for me

NotAHugeFan should check out Dylan’s Love and Theft. It’s great–and no mumbling or hard-to-understand lyrics; just good songs and melodies.

Come on people… you think NotAhugeFan actually gives a crap? Actually all this person wanted to do was send the spam attached to their response… GRRRRRR Makes me hunger for a way to slap across the interwebs…

Since we’re talking about Bob, I can’t resist making this comment: Remember, having a Brit accent does not mean that you are highly intelligent. Case in point: Simon Cowell. He said in an interview that Dylan “bores him to tears.” He’d rather listen to Carrie Underwood.
One has to think–just how dumb is this guy? How many books has this guy read in his life? And I don’t mean Danielle Steele or Where’s Waldo. Poetry? Forget it. The guy is just an ultra-straight Brit bully. But welcome to our current abysmal popular culture, you know, like, the one that rewards stupidity.

as someone who just got into Dylan this year and has been tearing through his music like a tazmanian devil, I will say. i was surprised how well he sounds on albums. People thing of him as a charicature because of the way he sang live sometimes, and because of how many people made fun of him. But he’s always clear and articulate and in tune on the studio recordings.
Simon Cowell needs to sit down with the right album, I think. Dylans later stuff has been great. Love and Theft, Oh Mercy, Time Out of Mind. But I haven’t found an album yet I get bored with, although Im sure there’s bound to be one.

As a fan of Bob Dylan and his music for about 45 years, anyone who still does not understand the importance of this poet/musician in world culture has been asleep or in a coma. I wonder if in 45 years from now, will the public still be influenced by the on-going relevance of his words and music? I think so! Listen and learn!

On a literal level nobody understands everything Dylan has said or done probably including himself. Many of us identify and see the brilliance of a lot of it and feel most of it. And, If you don’t like him he doesn’t seem to care, probably one reason I like him.

If you understand all of Dylan, you might be a god. If nothing he has ever sung moves, you’re definitely not human.
